Hello Kathy, thank you for your question. Most surge protectors provide actual surge protection for a few years. It is difficult to provide an estimate because this depends how often the surge protector is exposed to power surges. One tip to increase the life expectancy would be to unplug the device during storms because power surges from natural disasters are much stronger than normal power surges and can cause severe damage. This device does not protect against lightning strikes, so that is why we recommend unplugging it before a storm occurs. GE 8-Outlet Surge Protector with 4 ft. Cord, Black
This item will expire and stop working per reading the back of the box. On the back of the box it reads: Automatic shutdown technology stops power to devices when surge protector expires. I did not open the box to see if there is an expiration date on the product or if there is a product sticker as to when this will completely stop working/expire. This means I do not know how many years to expect this surge protector to last under normal use in working condition. The information when this item will expire and stop working should be on the outside of the box or state how many years it is expected or supposed to last after opened and first used and of course under normal use and in working condition.

Hello Kathy, thank you for your review. We apologize that our product did not meet and exceed your expectations. We always value customer feedback and ways to help improve future experiences with our products. All surge protectors, no matter which brand you buy, have a finite life and will expire. It is a good rule of thumb to replace your surge protectors every few years because of the fact that they expire. If you continue to use a surge protector after the protection has expired, then you will risk damaging the devices that are plugged into it. We cannot provide an estimate as to how long it will last in your area, because this depends on the frequency and strength of the power surges that it is exposed to. The automatic shutdown technology is a unique feature that actually protects your devices from being damaged by the next surge after protection has expired, and is really helpful to let you know when this needs to be replaced. Also, this devices comes with a lifetime warranty, so if you ever think the device is defective, you can contact our Consumer Care team for support.

If there is anything we can do to improve your overall experience, please give us a call between the hours of 7 AM – 8 PM Central Standard Time, Monday thru Friday at 1-800-654-8483, press option 4, and provide our Consumer Care Team with your personal ticket number 558618. Thank you and have a great day! GETechSupport

Don't expect to get more than 6 or 7 electronic devices plugged into this. You can see in my picture there is room for only one more regular sized plug with what I consider a typical assortment for your home office setup. It is still worth the money because of the lights indicating if the surge protection is still working and the unit is grounded. I am assuming GE has the technology on the inside working correctly. The two usb plugs are a good touch if the outlets are within reach. There are 2 keyhole screw holes on the back for stable mounting to a wall or desk. One light glows blue to indicate surge protection is still working. The other light is green to indicate it is properly grounded.

This is a great surge protector. I had two lamps, two cell phones a laptop and a hand held vac installed but it did not shut off until I plugged in and turned on a full size vacuum cleaner. Shutting off is a good thing because that means a damaging surge was prevented. The outlets twist and there are four outlets spaced further apart to accommodate adapters. The on/off switch does not light up but the grounded and protected lights do. 6ft cord and limited lifetime warranty.

This is GE surge protection product is intended to accommodate up to 10 electronic powered devices such those associated with a desktop computer and peripherals. This device is rated at 3000 joules of surge protection. It is intended for indoor use in dry areas (no aquarium equipment should be connected) and has a load rating of 15 amperes at 120 volts. The exterior dimensions of the plastic case are approximately 13" x 4" x 1-3/4". It weighs a relatively light 1 lb., 9 oz., including the 6-ft. power cord. The power cord has a low-profile, right-angle plug. This unit includes two USB charging ports intended to supply a total of up to 10 watts of charging power. The ten receptacles have twist covers to keep dust out of unused outlets. As is the case for surge protectors, this product is NOT A LIGHTNING ARRESTOR, the connected equipment warranty terms making that clear. For protection against lightning for high-value or vital electronics, whole-house lightning protection should be provided for the main electrical service entrance as well as for any connected telephone, receiving antenna or cable company equipment. I put this surge protector to use for protection of a desktop computer system. This product is intended for wall mounted or on-the-floor use. I mounted on the wall behind our computer desk to organize the power wiring that we formerly had on our computer desktop. I mounted it so that the combination "reset" and "off" switch is readily accessible, so that the indicator lights verifying "grounded" and "protected" status are visible and so that the USB charging outlets are readily accessible. If this unit is to be used on a desktop, I suggest that it be done after adhering felt or other surface protectors to the back side of the product housing. Overall, this is a handy, user-friendly product.

The 10-outlet 2 USB port Premium GE Surge Protector is a smart purchase. The protection rating of 3000 Joules comes with a $400,000 connected equipment guarantee alone is worth owning this item. The 2 USB charging ports are an added feature, over and above the 10 protected ports. My old power strip was filled up and some ports were covered by too many power supply bricks. The item can be wall mounted or used on flat surfaces. The photos show old power strip and the new GE protector has the room I needed with all the plugs not filled or inaccessible. The protector has indicator lights for grounded and surge protection when they are actively protecting your equipment. The only con [and all surge protectors have this flaw] is that the power on/off and indicator lights should be at the opposite side than the same side that the power cord exits the case. More female outlets and some spaced apart so DC power bricks do not block other outlets. Once again the GE Surge Protector is a smart purchase to protect your equipment and keep the power outlets clear from their neighboring bricks. This is an item that I do recommend for your equipment protection.

This GE 10 outlet, 2 USB port premium surge protector is just what I needed for my indoor grow tent. I intend to start my vegetable seeds inside and I need a lot of outlets for lights, timers, fans, and heat mats. This 10 outlet surge protector will fit the bill. It even has 2 USB ports so i can charge my phone too! Once there is power to the unit a blue light will light. Once the green light lights the unit is grounded. If the blue light or green light stops its time to get a new unit. There is also a on/off switch on the side of the unit.

The standout feature over other powerstrips is the ability to close off unused receptacles. Other features I like about this outlet are the overspaced 3 outlets for transformers. The on/off/reset master switch is not as modern as the rest of the design but is a utility orange lit when on through a clear rocker switch. The LED "protected" and "grounded" lights let you know the status of your surge suppressor. USB charging ports (2) are a welcome convenience and I always appreciate a 90 degree flat plug so that you can fit furniture tighter against this plug without the risk of damaging the cord. 4ft cord can be limiting but was enough for my uses.

I am finding this to be an excellent 2100 Joules surge protector. It has eight outlets with three of them far enough apart to allow for the power adapters a lot of current low voltage/current modern day electronics use. A plus is the twist-to-lock safety covers for those of us with young children and grandchildren. No need to purchase additional outlet cover safety caps if used in an area where preschoolers' play. It also comes with two USB charging ports which both my wife and I find very convenient. Well done GE!

I was looking for a good and reliable surge protector for my home office until I find this 8 outlet surge protector. It's very convenient for my work because I need to connect my cellular phone, my IPad, my computer, my TV etc. What I like about this surge protector that it has many great features like enough space for adapters, it has twist-to-lock covers, a two USB charging ports, ground indicator light, on/off switch which includes an integrated ciurcuit breaker for overload protection, power filter for a sharper picture. Something really important is the automatic shutdowm technology installed. This is in case the protection capacity is exceeded by a power surge the indicator won't lit up and the power will be shutdown to the outlets in order to protect all my electronic equipment. This is a great advantage on this product.

Overall this is a nice surge protector strip. It has a row of outlets for 5 regular plugs and a row spaced out further for 3 transformer plugs, and then 2 USB ports. The USB ports is why I purchased this for the most part, a close second would be the 3 outlets for transformers. Everything plugs in nicely and each outlet comes with a built in cover you just turn to "close" it. This is a good safety feature as well as protection from dust & foreign objects. Though the "strip" isn't huge the surface area is almost twice that of what is used for the outlets. Also, most importantly, I would prefer the on/off switch be either on the top or the opposite side of the cord though. This way the cord can be facing toward the wall like it should be and you can still reach down and turn it on or off. With this it would be toward the wall and hard to get to. I like to plug things into this and have it turned off completely when not in use as to keep from using residual electricity and not be concerned about lightning strikes. The way this one is configured it is hard to reach to the back of it to find the switch.
