Questions & Answers

My GE refridgerator uses RPWF water filters. Will the RPWFE filter work also?

Refrigerator model is GFE29HDMAES
Asked by: Jimmy
Yes, but the RPWFE is more expensive because it has a small radio chip in it that communicates with the refrigerator. (That's how the refrigerator sends out a message to replace the water filter.) RPWF filter probably 1/3 the price.

RPWFE - GE Fridge. I have a GE fridge less than two years old. Each time I replace the water filter, it would last less than 3 months. Water would start dispensing slower (a lot slower) where it would take 30 seconds to dispense 8 oz of water. Ice cubes also would start getting smaller in shape as if not enough water is getting through. Am I the only person who's experiencing this? Last filter only lasted 1 month before it started flowing slowly.
Asked by: Fred
Are you sure you have it installed correctly? I haven’t had these issues.

Someone was telling me they thought THD had a Filter that would work in place of the RPWFE. Is there one and if so supply part number?
Asked by: Dave
From what I understand, the RPWFE is only made by GE. It has a RFID chip in it that syncs with the refrigerator computer. That’s why the RPWF will not work in its place. Inside the filter housing, if there is an FCC warning label, you have to use the RPWFE filter ONLY.

Refrigerator Water Filter is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 1694.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seems to work great so far. Replaced the filter for the first time since owning our new appliance. It was easy to install and seems to make our water clearer and more pure. I was hoping my water would taste a little better than it does. It definitely tastes better than tap, but it's not the best tasting water I've ever had. Maybe I'm expecting too much from a fridge filter. Overall, I think great.

The negative issue of this filter is that it runs on time and not water consumption. One can put a new filter and be away from home for six months to find upon return that the display say:" overdue replace the filter" while not a drop of water has been used!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to remove and install! We hadn't’ Installed a new filter since we bought the house 2 years ago. All I had to do was take a picture of the tag with the serial # and the GE site came right up on my phone. So easy!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Design needs review When I tried to install a small white piece broke off. It’s the design I think. We were still able to use it. I would take pictures but don’t want to take it out to do so.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Installing a new filter That little plastic tab seems to be a problem with installing a new filter. Tried installing for over an hour, breaking a jar of pickles in the process. Needless to say, massive profanities out of the hubby. Saw a review where the tab broke off and then it installed just fine. So we cut off the little tab and it went in. You owe me a jar of cornichons GE.

This is the second filter I have e replaced only to have it cause a leak and require $150 service call to fix the ice maker. Also, it dumps a lot of charcoal into your icemaker if you do not have the ability to purge the filter on your refrigerator.

I'll buy a Korean fridge next time.
