Based on a family member's recommendation, I had the GE Whole House filter system installed in my home (it was installed in the garage to enable easier plumber access to the main water line). The filter system has made a significant difference in our water quality (the water in my city is pretty bad). It filters larger contaminants, but it doesn't appear to remove chlorine, which I didn't really expect from this type of filter. In my home, these filters last between 4-6 months.
Changing the filter is quite a mess and that is the only down side of this product. You have to turn off the main water, wait for the pressure to subside, and be prepared for a LOT of water to come out of the filter system once it's opened. Good thing I installed it in the garage where cleanup is easier.
If you're looking for an affordable filter system and replacement filters, this is a good, solid system that will improve your in-home water quality.

The replacement filter cartridge is fine, the challenge is in screwing the container back into the receptacle without pinching the o ring. IF it is not exactly correct...... the product leaks. This is a design flaw of the filter assembly itself and not the replacement cartridge

Filters out the mess!
Put a dual filter system in my home to filter the well water....wow what a difference! I use the Home Depot pleated filter at the beginning and it really works well eliminating the heavy stuff. Then I use the solid filter on the backside. I am very please the pleated filters really work. Check out the results in my photo.

I have used these elements since the water supply filter...
I have used these elements since the water supply filter was added to this home say five years ago. Always worked fine, this one went in w/o a problem, and didn’t need a new gasket. Wish HD had a bit bigger product shelf space for this product. ThX for asking!

Works good. May need to change more often if dirty water coming into house.
The filter does the job. My water has little white flakes from the street and the filter takes them all out. Nice to have clean water in the house. I need to change the filter every 6 mos. Make sure the filter holder is mounted securely. It take a hard twist to open the container.
