The design or manufacturing process has a problem. This is the 2nd unit because the threads cracked in 1st unit and it was leaking badly. 2nd unit began leaking from seal area within an hour of installation, very slight leak but that’s how it starts

    OK, I Guess
The ultimate reason for using this is because of availability. I wanted one with a see-through canister. My city water is pretty dirty as you can see by my photo. Inside it I have a 6 month filter cartridge that I put in about a week ago. The reason for the poor review is because it started leaking at the red pressure release button at minute one. To my surprise it stopped dripping a few days later and has never dripped since (Magic). Because of all the negative reviews about the diverter valve I have never used it at all, ever. My on/off water valve for the house is only a few feet away so I use it to turn the water on/off for changing the cartridge. I guess only time will tell if the red button will start leaking again.

      Well water filter system
I was doing my research to find a cost efficient well water filter system, and I decided to try GE smart water filters. So far I'm happy with the performance of this choice filters, I install a 4 stage system using GE products and PEX pluming, with a bypass for my lawn irrigation and filter change, the total cost under 250 dollars now my well water at home taste better than most bottle water.

I have had this for 2 months so far and instantly noticed better water quality with a different filter then the one provided that treats for chlorine and other chemicals used too treat city water. I installed a physical bypass after reading that people have issues with the one on the unit. Haven’t had any issues YET but I also haven’t had too change the filter or anything yet. Time will tell.

Purchased 2 of these. 1 for my Garage hose & 1 for MY RV. The 1 installed in my garage failed the very first time I tried to use the bypass feature. The valve popped out and water sprayed everywhere. Fortunately I mounted it next to the hose bib & was able to shut off the water quickly. What a poorly designed product. The one used for my RV didn't failed, I guessing it's because I never used the valve. After the failure at home I will no longer use it for my RV. I see in these reviews this is a common problem. Hopefully Home Depot will refund my money

Diverter Valve pops out, spewing water!
Installed less than a year ago. The diverter valve is used to shut off the filter, or put it in by-pass mode, so changing the filter is easy. The 3rd time I went to change the filter, while turning the valve, it popped out of housing, causing a big time water leakage. Reading other reviews, this is a common issue, and GE should remove this product from the market. Only glad it didn't decide to pop out when I wasn't home.

              Diverter valve popped off
Diverter valve popped off less than a month after installation. The very first time I used the divert to change the cartridge it came loose and sent water gushing. GE quality has really fallen off.
