Product Overview

We offer a broad line of polyurethane dead blow hammers in ball pein, standard 1-piece, slim line 1-piece, and sledge head 1-piece types, all built with the strength and innovation that define GearWrench. Each hammers' head contains a canister full of steel shot that creates a dead blow effect, sustaining impact, maximizing force, reducing rebound, and absorbing the shock of impact. The handles are reinforced with steel for strength and also feature a knurled texture for improved grip. The flanged back end of the handle won't slip past your grip. The ball pein type has a steel face and pein which allows for conventional use in striking punches and chisels, as well as shaping and straightening unhardened metals. The standard, slim line, and sledge head 1-piece types have a durable, hot-cast polyurethane coating which resists chipping or splitting, and is non-marring and non-sparking. The hot-cast polyurethane coating also reduces noise when striking metal.
  • Canister filled with steel shot in the hammer's head creates a dead blow effect to reduce rebound
  • Dead blow design also sustains impact, maximizes force, and absorbs the shock of impact
  • Non-sparking, hot-cast polyurethane body covers the steel shot chamber and the steel reinforced handle, no exposed metal
  • Polyurethane face doesn't mar surfaces or absorb liquids, resists chipping and splitting, and reduces striking noise
  • Steel reinforced handle is strong and safe, built to resist breaking from an overstrike
  • Knurled texture on the handle with a flanged back end combine for a sure non-slip grip
  • Red polyurethane body is highly visible and durable enough for heavy-duty work
  • Meets or exceeds US federal spec, GGG-H-33A

Great addition for GearWrench
GearWrench 69-543G Slim line Dead Blow Hammer The GearWrench Slim Dead Blow Hammer is a good addition to the GearWrench line. This hammer with its 2-inch clearance of head face to handle gives you plenty of room for your knuckles to clear on impact of the hammer face. The face of the hammer has enough size to deliver the increase hammer force to the surface soundly. The new slim line of the grip makes the hammer easier to use.
Great Poly Hammer
This hammer is a super solid option when needing a softer headed hammer option. It also does not have the rebound that a normal hammer has. This hammer was perfect for opening a plastic pool pump lid, one that wouldn't stand up to the steel hammer. It's also great for knocking wood into place without immediate damage to it. This hammer is a great tool to add to any collection.

After many years, I finally have one!
One of the tools that I’ve historically passed on was a dead blow hammer. I could always put something over what I needed to tap to ensure that I wouldn’t leave a mark. Now that I have this hammer, I see that you really get what you pay for! When installing grease caps on my trailer, having a dead blow hammer would have come in very handy instead of using a board over the cap and tapping that. When I am working with furniture that needs assembly or repairs to the wooden parts (dowels, etc.) I’ve tied some type of rag around the head of my hammer – no I don’t have a set of wooden mallets either – and generally have been OK BUT there have been times when I’ve left marks on the wood. Now, those days are gone! Speaking of things that are gone, so is the bounce-back that I’d get. The steel shot in the head absorbs the bounce back and is actually easier on my arm and shoulder. This hammer will also replace the need for a wooden mallet – at least in my tool collection. One feature that I don’t need now but might in the future is the fact that this hammer doesn’t produce sparks. Please note that it isn’t designed to drive nails! It’s supposed to be used on flat surfaces like wood or metal. There is one feature that I'm not fond of: the knurled texture on the handle. Holding it in my bare hand is actually not comfortable and I need to put on a glove. I may wrap it with some of the self-adhesive stretch medical tape so that it’s comfortable. Other than that, this tool works perfectly for me and I have no problem recommending it.

good item
I decided to get a dead blow hammer for three reasons. When I'm installing a grease or oil seal, I want to be able to get it seated without any damage that a steel hammer may cause. When installing dowels whether in wood or metal, I don't want to damage the dowel or the surrounding surfaces, and when working around flammable chemicals it won't generate any sparks. It's also nice to find a quality product made in USA.

My favorite dead blow hammer
I do a lot of work on cars, and dead blow hammers are invaluable tools to have because they transfer all the blow to the target without bouncing back. They also work great in construction - banging a board into place without denting the wood, and things like that. If you have never used one before, you will be impressed. Just to be clear - dead blow hammers like this one are for hitting smooth objects, not for small sharp things like nails. I have several dead blow hammers, but this Gearwrench has rapidly become my favorite. The overall shape of the grip fits my hand really well, and the surface of the gripping area is covered with tiny nubs which help keep it from slipping out of a greasy hand. The head is somewhat slender, which makes it easy to hit recessed objects. The construction quality is very good - nicely molded and trimmed. Lifetime warranty. Made in USA. Try one, you won't be disappointed.
