Bolt Biter 1/2 in. Drive SAE/Metric Deep Extraction Socket Set (10-Piece)

I had a 9/16 bolt covered in gasket maker which the previous person tried to grind away, only to round out one side of the bolt. I tried the Husky extraction set first, but it made it worse. Bought this and it immediately caught the bolt and loosened it. This set restored hope to complete my project!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] For fasteners that are rounded or rusted, the Bolt Biter worked. Lug nuts become worn over time and or seized to aluminium wheels. The Bolt Biter sockets have straight flutes that bite into the flat side of the nut or bolt, in either direction, on or off. Rusted hardware makes the right size socket or wrench difficult to put on. Select the similar size Bolt Biter socket and use a soft face hammer to drive the socket on. The nut or bolt can be removed and cleaned-up before re-installing. These sockets worked well for my two projects.

So I knew how tough this set would be. The Gearwrench 10 Pc. 1/2" Drive Bolt Biter Deep Extraction Set tears through rounded off, rusted up, and even seized bolts! They are no match for these high quality, laser etched, deepwell sockets. The only question I had when I first opened the case was, why there are 2 sockets for each size socket in the set. With the set starting at -19[-3/4" the next size in the set is 19[3/4". Then, -21[-13/16", 21[13/16", then, -22[-7/8", 22[7/8", -24[-15/16", 24[15/16", -25[-1", 25[1". After using the sockets I realized they just put the metric and standard sockets together in one set. Genius, if you ask me! got to a point in doing many projects that I needed a bolt Extractor kit. I’ve started working on a 1967 Olds 425 that I plan on swapping into my Olds. My Olds has long tube headers so there’s no need for factory exhaust manifolds. I got 8 of the 10 bolts out no problem. The last two, would not budge. These bolts probably haven’t been removed since put in at the factory back in 1967 (52 years ago) I hit the bolts with WD-40 but I don’t think any got in because of the downward angle. It took less than 5 minutes to get both stubborn bolts out, combined. They were bolt 9/16 head bolts, need the 14mm for one and the 13mm/ 1/2 inch for the other, yeah pretty rounded. The bolt holes on the head are clean, bolts didn’t break or snap. They are out and now onto the next step in my project! Get these. You will not be disappointed

Sometimes you cant fit a pair of locking pliers or some other more extreme methods I have used over the years to get rusted out nuts and bolts off in the space available. Since I work at the beach everything rusts and replacement of hardware is a regular process. Occasionally something gets skipped in the rotation and it no longer looks like a nut or bolt when we find it. I went searching to give these a test and found a nut in a cramped place with moderate corrosion. I picked the size extractor that matched the nut size before rusting and put it on a ratchet. It bit right in and came off without a fuss. I was curious if I could then put it back on and had no issues, just like with a standard socket on a new nut. These will get a spot in my maintenance bag in my truck for the inevitable rusty fastener.
