Bolt Biter is the revolutionary new extraction socket system from GEARWRENCH. We talked with auto mechanics and industrial techs to learn what they hated about existing extraction sockets and impact socket sets. Bolt Biter redefines extraction and solves all of their frustrations. Bolt Biter grips rusted or rounded fasteners instead of cutting into them, which means that these sockets last 10 times longer than the competition when used with an impact gun. That's why they carry a lifetime warranty, we built Bolt Biter to match the strength of our traditional impact sockets. Bolt Biter has a bi-directional design that can tighten or re-use a damaged fastener just as well as it can remove it, making it perfect for specialized components. But durability and re-use are just the start. This improved design also seats easily onto the fastener, so you don't have to swing a mallet under the hood. Fasteners don't get jammed in the socket - unlike old-school extraction sockets. Bolt Biter even fits a wider range of fasteners, with "minus-size" sockets designed to fit onto fasteners worn down past their original size. Forge Ahead with Bolt Biter, the innovative leader in extraction. Get your Bolt Biter 1/4 in. and 3/8 in. Drive SAE/Metric Impact Extraction Socket Set (28-Piece) today.

Q:Hello, I have stripped a bolt (original size 13mm) down about half a size, my 1/2 or 7/16 extractor will not grip it. Does your 15 piece set cover a size between a 12 mm and 13 mm?

Answer This Question

A:  Roy, This set features a 13- mm, designed for damaged 13 mm fasteners, it also includes a 12mm and an 11 mm socket. Our 28-piece set (84784) includes a 12- mm socket, and it sounds like this one might be what you need for the extremely damaged 13mm you are dealing with.

        A:  yes

        by|Sep 24, 2023

A:  These are designed to fit on damaged heads. If the socket will seat on the head it should work. I don't know the word prectly but, yes, if it can seat on the head it should grip.

              Amazing Set
I had a 9/16 bolt covered in gasket maker which the previous person tried to grind away, only to round out one side of the bolt. I tried the Husky extraction set first, but it made it worse. Bought this and it immediately caught the bolt and loosened it. This set restored hope to complete my project!

                Lifesavers!!!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Talk about life savers! I never realized how much I would NEED these bolt biters, until I actually ran into situations where nothing else would work. This particular set has just about every size you would need to extract any rounded off bolt head and screw. The in between sizes in this set, is what makes this set phenomenal! I’m a field mechanic and sometimes I don’t have certain nuts or bolts. In desperate situations, I have to temporarily use that rounded off bolt. These bolt biters are good for installing and extracting rounded off bolts. Gearwrench really created a wonderful product, and I’m extremely grateful for having these in my tool box (or service truck)

                  Worth keeping in my toolbox
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Works as intended. I used this on a pesky stabilizer link on someone's ancient prius 3 that the nuts were rusted and a little rounded. The pretty orange ring will probably pop off on the first use however.

Rusted and rounded, no problem anymore
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The kit is very complete, every size and in-between size you will ever need. The socket holder is pretty awesome also. This will be a handy kit here in the salt belt, because there is no way to stop the rust, but now you can defeat it.

Bolt Biters for the win !!!!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First of all, upon opening this Bolt Biter socket set, the fit and finish is EXCELLENT!!! The Orange on black coloring is awesome, especially when working in low light situations, or cramped engine bays, where tools end up getting lost. These sockets are well made and heavy, they easily are equal too or exceed “tool truck” standards. I am a small engine/utv/atv mechanic. I ALWAYS have machines come in with stripped bolts, lug nuts and screws. I have used these sockets 4 times now in two days and I’m super impressed. I was imagining severe damage to the hardware due to how well these sockets bite, but I was surprised you can hardly tell they were used. I can and have re-used the original bolt/screw I removed with zero issues. This socket set is my new go to. They are so much faster to use then having to pull out a rotary tool or grinder !!!!

Best Bolt Extraction Socket Set Ever.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] 28 Pc. 1/4" & 3/8" Drive Bolt Biter™ Impact Extraction Socket Set I just got my set in time for this Job. I had to remove the sheet metal skid plates to change the oil on a 2010 Toyota Tacoma.  There are 2 skid plates each held on with 4 flange bolts with a 12mm head. I used a 6 point socket and a ratchet and the socket rounded off all 4. I then used a impact gun with an impact socket (big mistake). I proceeded to completely round the head off one, not just evenly but made a pyramid shape of it.I then remembered I just got my Extraction socket set. I started by cleaning the loose rust off the bolt heads then hitting the impact socket to knock the rust off the washer. I then used the 12- Extraction socket with a 3/8 ratchet and removed 3 bolts no problem. (It grabbed so tight I had to put the bolt in my vise to get it out of the socket). The last bolt was  so badly damaged I had to use a dremel tool to straighten it up so the socket would grab. I finally had to use the 7/16- Extraction socket by the time i was finished but it came out. What about the other 4 bolts you ask, well I started with the number 12 Extraction socket at first and  did not round them off like a regular socket did and all came out.I  put 8 new bolts in, Used anti-seize on the treads and sprayed the heads with fluid film to keep them from rusting. Check out my photos, the bolt on the right was when I started with the 12 extraction socket, the 2 middle are  the ones I rounded off, and the left one was the one I grinded smooth and the 7/16- was able to remove it.I think the secret to these sockets are the many close together sizes that able you to get the best fit. Before you start see which socket fits the tightest I used 3 different sizes on the same bolts. One last thing, they are called Impact Sockets, but I was afraid to use my impact gun, because I got should terrific results with a long handle 3/8 ratchet, so that's the way i will use them in the future. .

These worked without breaking a sweat!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If there was ever a “I hope I don't have to use this tool” you are looking at it. I could stare at them all day and wonder how good they really are or I could test one. Unfortunately (fortunately) I didn't actually have a stripped bolt, but I remembered I had to use an extractor to remove some oil pan bolts a few weeks ago, I wonder how well these work on putting the bolts back in as promised. I live in the North East... all vehicles rot from salt. I was replacing a oil pan in my truck and needed to remove the bolts. I'd say about half the heads stripped and needed extraction. I replaced all of the bolts with new. I went and found the stripped head bolts in my “bolt bucket” and brought the truck in the garage. I pulled out the perfectly good, brand new bolt and tried to replace it with the worst looking stripped out bolt. As soon as I found the correct socket and test fit the bolt head, I knew I wouldn't have a problem. I was able to give it full torque + 60 degrees (from the manual) without an issue. Nobody likes to re-use stripped bolts, but sometimes on a Sunday night, you have no choice, nice to have options like being able to install a stripped out bolt. The other feature I like with these is a the minus size doe each socket, it's gets you that ½ step down if the bolt head is really rounded off or rotten. Highly recommend having these and hoping you don't have to use them.

Another great set of Gearwrench tools!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had purchased a smaller set of these and they served me well – so I decided to step it up and get the larger set so I would never be without a size, nor a fastener situation I couldn't resolve. I use these when wrenching on cars with the north-eastern weather and rust it destroys fasteners with, but i've also utilized them when replacing a circulator pump on our heating system that had been rusted and rounded off from previous work done. The kind of tool that you don't think you need – but are glad you have it when you do. :)

got to a point in doing many projects that I needed a bolt Extractor kit. I’ve started working on a 1967 Olds 425 that I plan on swapping into my Olds. My Olds has long tube headers so there’s no need for factory exhaust manifolds. I got 8 of the 10 bolts out no problem. The last two, would not budge. These bolts probably haven’t been removed since put in at the factory back in 1967 (52 years ago) I hit the bolts with WD-40 but I don’t think any got in because of the downward angle. It took less than 5 minutes to get both stubborn bolts out, combined. They were bolt 9/16 head bolts, need the 14mm for one and the 13mm/ 1/2 inch for the other, yeah pretty rounded. The bolt holes on the head are clean, bolts didn’t break or snap. They are out and now onto the next step in my project! Get these. You will not be disappointed
