Do I put metal mesh or steel wool in hole also
Use steel scrunchy pot scrubbers, stuff the hole, place the nozzle into the scrubber and spray to better seal the hole. It's messy - wear disposable gloves. The foam further seals the gap and the steel prevents chewing the foam to reopen the gap.

how thick of a gap can this fill? 2", 3", 4" ?
I'd say a 3/4in gap would be reasonable. I recently used it to fill a pretty large gap on the bottom on my garage doors.

How do you get the stuff to come out of the tube? Isn’t dispensing
Make sure you shake it real well for a minute. Then hold down the trigger for a bit, takes a little to start. Once used for the first time, it only lasts 30 days before the can needs to be tossed!

Not a chance. Perhaps unless you cram the nozzle inside it's mouth. lol
