Beautiful brushed nickel matches my other brushed nickel fixtures. Not yellow or brassy! This is a extremely well made professional grade thermostatic mixing valve. You get the valve body and the brushed nickel trim. Don't forget you need to order the Grohe "Smartbox" separately - the description gives the part number. You also can order service shut offs separately and install them into the valve body - I suggest you do, as that lets you (or the next owner, or a plumber) turn off the water supply right at the valve to work on it if needed. Way easier than shutting water off to the whole house or searching for a buried shut-off valve. Everything comes very well packaged and protected, with pictographic instructions that take a little studying to figure out. Take your time and go through them. There is a lot of information there! Some have little check marks to tell you what to do and X's showing the common mistakes. The instructions walk you through flushing the system before installing the valve to make sure you don't contaminate it with pipe shavings or any else that might be left behind during the rough plumbing.

So it's time to remodel that old shower. Now is the time to switch over to the newest tech in water delivery systems. Set your water temperature and pressure, lock it in and from that point forward a single push of the center button delivers that exact setting every time. I like how smooth the action of the valve and has a nice look to it.

Likes: smooth adjustment. Nice mounting. Nice appearance. dislikes: $100 more for mounting hardware on an already expensive unit. All plastic, even adjusting knob. Cover plate is only solid metal part. Please note that this product must be installed in combination with the GROHE Rapido SmartBox (35601000). Still recommended based on experience with other Grohe products - just a little concerned about durability.

I purchased the GROHE Grohtherm Smart Control Single Function Round Thermostatic Trim with Control Module in Brushed Nickel and it arrived quickly and was undamaged. We intend to install it when we get enough money to hire a plumber. It looks very complicated to install, and requires the actual thermostat, which is sold separately and which we already purchased.

This GROHE shower/bath control is for a single water output. This is perfect for a bathtub without a shower, or a stand alone shower without a tub. This single function control module will control the water temperature and water volume. The finish on this upscale 6 - 1/4 inch round brushed nickel finish escutcheon trim plate is exquisite. It is simple, yet encompasses the look and craftsmanship of a piece of fine art. What disappointed me was that the control knobs were plastic. At this price I would think that they would at least be made of metal and Nickel plated. What makes this water control stand out is its ability to regulate the temperature of the water using the integrated TurboStat technology that compensates for any unpleasant temperature fluctuations of hot or cold water usage elsewhere in the house, like when someone opens a faucet, or flushes a toilet. This valve is not a Pressure Balanced valve like many compensating shower valves are. Grohe’s TurboStat technology uses a thermo element which is a fast acting thermostat that Grohe claims can react up to twice as fast to abrupt changes in water pressure, and are up to nine times more accurate than the leading competitor’s water valves. It allows you to set the temperature you desire, and come back tomorrow, and with a press of a single button have that exact water temperature and volume delivered without having to re-adjust it every time you take a shower or bath. You adjust your desired temperature with the large control knob. You press a little spring loaded locking release button, then rotate to your desired temperature. When you release the spring loaded button it locks in the temperature. You adjust the water volume or flow of water using the small adjusting ring surrounding the On/Off button. Then all you have to do is press the button to turn the water on or off. This makes it extremely easy for children, elderly, or disabled users to have a perfect shower or bath temperature every time without having to adjust it every time, or have the fear of scalding themselves. The push button On/Off feature is great for people with arthritis who may have a difficult time turning or twisting water valves. It comes with three different inserts depending on if you are installing this for a shower, tub, or hand held. And while this control module is a single function, GROHE also makes Two, and Three function control modules. Or this control can be used to supply water to a GROHE water diverter control module if you wanted to control two or three water outputs like a tub, shower, hand held sprayer, rain fall shower heads, or side mounted body sprayers. It has the ability to flow a maximum of 7.7 GPM (gallons per minute) of water at 43.5 pounds per square inch of water pressure. Uniform Plumbing Code states that water pressure be regulated to 80 PSI or lower. Most residential water pressure is from 50-70 PSI. So this control will have no problem delivering water to multiple shower heads at the same time. This is not a complete shower valve setup. You will need to purchase the GROHE Rapido SmartBox (35601000) to install this control module. This is the box installed inside the wall that you connect the inlet and outlet water pipes to. After reading the instruction I decided to delay the installation and get a professional plumber to install it. It is going to require major plumbing and tile modifications.

This is NOT for a remodel, this is for either new construction or a complete gut job. Unless you already have the (REQUIRED) Groh valve controller in your wall, this is not an easy job and you will likely need to completely rip your shower apart. From the pictures online it wasn't obvious how massive the valve controller part is that inserts in the wall. See pictures to truly understand the size of this thing. Unless you have access to the interior wall of your shower, you aren't getting this thing into your wall without tearing your shower apart. We called a plumber to come take a look at this for us. Since it's going to be such a big job we will re-do a bunch of the plumbing in our floor as well to eliminate the shower getting super hot when you flush the toilet. Overall this until looks amazing, and feels very substantial. But be prepared for a BIG project.
