Generac doesn't stand by their product
Took to local small engine shop and they found broken head. The cause was a missing snap ring to hold the rocker arm shaft on the exhaust valve assembly. Generac wouldn't even talk about it. They said 2 years is all the support you have.

We lose power a lot
Living in Connecticut means Nor'Easters, Winter Storms and occasional tropical storms.
With TS Isaias came the latest outage, our old generator would.not.start. By some miracle, his unit was available in Rhode, IS so we can run and grabbed it.
Starts easy, good hours meter, consumes ~7 gallons per 10 hours, but we ran ours four on and two off. Its not any louder or quieter than others, its a generator...
Power wise, it was more than enough to run our fridge, chest freezer, all lights, TV and stereo, and our well pump. Food and creature comforts.
We did not use it to continuously power the electric hot water heater, but we did recharge it during one overnight when everything else was turned off.
Also, we could have turned off the well pumps to use the oven or range, but we choose not too because we enjoyed using the grill.

Very poor carburetor design/manufacturing, broken plastic choke butterfly valve pivot pin.
Planned to test the generator in preparation for the potential hurricane.
Very poor carburetor design/manufacturing, broken plastic choke butterfly valve pivot pin, plastic choke lever. Very disappointing customer service, no support. Less than 10 hours on a 3 year old, perfectly maintained GP5500, flipped choke lever to start the unit and the plastic butterfly valve pivot pin/connector snapped. GENERAC only sells the entire $75 carburetor assembly, not the 25 cent plastic part.
The generator was typically very difficult to start and particularly noisy when it was functional.

10 hrs on a brand new GP 5500 and no power
I bought this GP 5500 for a hurricane that was coming. (This generator has the Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR).
Another storm was head my way so I rolled it out and and started it up. Plugged in a 1/2" electric drill motor and NOTHING!!! I pushed the breaker button and still nothing. Cleaned the armature slip rings, replaced the AVR, replaced the brushes and still nothing. I have a 700 dollar piece of trash. Engine runs perfect, starts on the first pull.
I am getting readings with my multi-tester of:
1.45 volts, 28-31 Hz at receptacles~ hot leg to Neutral or Ground
I paid extra money to get what was supposed to be the best generator on the market and all I have is a very good running gasoline burner.

Great Product
Well i needed a generator and went out and bought one cause my electricity went out for 4 days and it worked great,put gas in it about every 10-11 hours for 4 days worked great,4 plugs connected to it and ran just about everything,ty.

From small to very large - Generac generators are great quality
I work for a general contractor and our company has used Generac portable generators for temporary power needs. I am also familiar with the large generators built for a large hotel or a hospital. I had never owned a generator but during hurricane Irma we needed a generator because of a medical condition my wife has. We only used the generator for 3 days until the power came back on. Now I own one for future needs.

Did the job well!
We recently setup a backup power setup for our home with this Generac generator as the centerpiece. About a month later or so we lost power due to a hurricane and after hooking things up (yea, it's a manual backup power setup) we were up and running enjoying life!
Very nice generator, starts easily, not too loud (it is a generator after all) and would recommend for a good value and solid performer!

easy to operate and put together, but walmart had a cheaper one and bigger 7500 watt really didn't want a big one like this

Our only source of power for 5 months.
Four years ago we built an off-grid home in SE Arizona. We had timed our arrival to coincide with the installation of our solar system. Of course, it didn't work out that way. The batteries had to ordered at least 2 months in advance because they were made to order in Nova Scotia, Canada and then shipped by ground to AZ. Well, ours were involved in a transportation accident so the process had to start over.
We had a smaller 3500W generator that would be insufficient to run the whole house for the 4 to 5 months that we had to wait, so we bought the Generac GP5500 and ran it daily for up to 16 hours a day for 5 months. The only maintenance I had to do on it was change the oil. After it's faithful service, it was retired to serve as a twice-a-week well pump generator. Something gave out on it last weekend and I was not able to find anyone to service it before I needed to pump water again, so we went to a local dealer and bought a new Generac RS5500.
As I type this, it is pumping water for the first time. I do intend to repair the first one, though. Living off-grid you can never have too many power sources. ;)
