IRT's take surface level temperature readings, they do not take the temperature of the air.
how close to the object to measure should the instrument be ?
The distance to the object being scanned will affect how big the scanning area is, this is called distance to spot ratio and this unit has a 8:1 ration. If you want to scan an area 1 inch across you would stand 8 inches away.
