Most useful compact circular saw I've ever used.
I had never even heard of the Genesis brand before I purchased this power tool, and I can tell you based upon my observations, I would not hesitate to own more power tools made by this brand. I did not expect this circular saw to be that powerful, it is after all, what I consider a "miniature" version of a larger circular saw. Much to my surprise, it is VERY powerful for it's size. I made several test-cuts with some leftover 2x4's, including cross cuts, and it did not even bog down. I marked a specific angle on one of my cross cuts, used the built-in laser as a guide, and it cut it perfectly. I uploaded a picture of how perfect and smooth it made the cut. It would have cut even smoother if I had the wood laying on a better surface than I had it on, but that was my fault. I appreciate how compact this saw is, and I must say, if I am travelling to a job where I need to make some quick cuts, this will be my go-to circular saw. It takes up less room, it is lighter, and it comes with the perfect storage bag. Another thing I appreciated which is almost unheard of with similar tools, is this actually came with several different types of blades! How cool is that? Now it doesn't matter what situation I need this for, I will always have the blade I need for the job. The included wrench makes it easy to change blades, and there is a place to store it along the cord where it enters the power tool so you don't ever lose it. At first I was worried this tool would only cut very thin materials, but that is not the case, it cuts as thick as it advertises, and it's powerful enough to do so!

          Awesome Plunge Circular Saw
I'm very impressed with the Genesis Trak Runner 3-1/2" compact circular plunge saw with laser. It has a powerful 5.8 amp 4500 rpm motor. The cutting depth is adjustable from zero to 1-1/8" and the adjustment is easy to make and has a secure lock. The kit comes with a carbide tipped wood blade, a blade for soft metal and a diamond blade for tile. It also comes with a very functional miter base, rip guide and vacuum adapter. The kit includes a very nice nylon storage bag which hold everything nicely. This is a tool I wouldn't want to be without now that I've discovered it.

          Very Handy Saw
This is a really nice saw and kit for so many jobs around the house. It comes with a number of nice accessories to make it very versatile. What I liked: The saw is easy to work with one hand given its size, weight, and design. Its fairly quiet for a power saw. Its very accurate - The notch and diamond opening on the base are lined up perfectly with the center of the blade. Its easy and accurate to adjust the depth of the blade. The accessories are nice - The miter base is a nice design that is easy to use and will eliminate me having a miter box. There is an edge guide that attaches to the base for long rip cuts. It has an exhaust port and hose for attaching a vac. It comes with 3 blades (1 for wood, 1 for drywall/sheet metal, and 1 for tile). Why I didn't give it 5 stars: The max cutting depth is only 1 1/8 inch. The base tilts to expose the blade via a tension spring. You must first "unlock it" by pressing a button next to the trigger, then it requires a descent bit of force. Its good for safety, but a little awkward sometimes. Also, I wish that you could lock the base up (with the blade exposed). The locking piece for adjusting the blade depth is plastic and I worry about it lasting long. The laser focusses such that it is only useful when the base is pushed down to expose the blade and cut. It also lines up with the left side of the blade (see pic) - I couldn't find any way to adjust it. Lastly, I found the Genesis replacement blades online at Home Depot, but there were no others than those 3. I couldn't find any other possible 3.5 inch blades. Overall, I'm very happy with this saw particularly for its accuracy, ease of use, and versatility.

          Portable Mitre Saw Kit
I was very surprised to see everything that was included in this kit. From a carry bag, which also will hold the miter guide, the laser guide, and the soft metal blade, each was a plus over a basic saw in a box. Lots of features from depth of cut settings, to the ability to plunge cut. However, in practice the usability of the set and how well designed when meeting real world conditions becomes apparent. The safety button is really meant for right handers. Pressing it releases the plunge cut guard and allows the motor to start, but if you simply press it to release the guard and let go, then the motor switch will not engage. The safety must be held fully down at all times to use, which means putting a death grip on the saw to keep both buttons depressed. The laser is nice, but is not adjusted to be aligned at all times. I found it was only in alignment when the saw was fully plunged down to the lowest depth. The miter guide is a great feature, but I would have reversed the design so the work piece is closer to you and the swivel is to the left, not the right. Also, the clamp blocks seeing the angle of cut when used. I would have preferred a thumb wheel to tighten the angle and depth stops, the plastic levers just seem like they will wear out prematurely. A very nice concept, but missing a bit in execution.

Jack of All Trades – Master of Plunge
Upon opening the box containing this compact plunge saw, I was excited to try it – outwardly it looks like a very capable tool and the included accessories imply an ability to do most anything. However, don’t be fooled, as I started working with it I realized that it is primarily designed for small and precise plunge cutting. If you will be asking it to sub as a small, versatile general use circular saw, you might be disappointed. The first thing I noticed is that because the saw cutting head is held in place (above the cutting surface) by a high-tension spring mounted to the base plate, it requires more than an incidental amount of wrist exertion to push the saw head downward to the cutting position. This is done by first pressing a plunge release button located next to the power trigger, and then bending your wrist to bring the back end of the saw up, which brings the front end of the saw down (a “see-saw” pivot). While this is the kind of action expected for a plunge cut, the combination of having to press a release button, followed by the required downward force and awkward wrist angle to push the tool forward through the cut, made it uncomfortable to perform routine utility cuts. Yes, the cutting depth is adjustable (and is set with a finger-activated clamp – see picture), but there was no way to lock the saw in the downward cutting (“plunge”) position, in order to make long straight cuts, without stressing the wrist. Perhaps it’s due to safety concerns, but if not, it’s puzzling why the manufacture doesn’t allow the saw to be locked in a cutting position. A portable miter base is also provided. The base plate of the saw is designed to fit into the track of the miter, allowing the user to push the saw along the track to achieve precise cuts. However, because the miter track is only 18” long, its usefulness is largely restricted to short cuts (i.e., tile or wood molding). I suggest most users will find this accessory to have limited usefulness, since there are other dedicated power tools better suited for miter work. Some of the things I like about the products’ accessories: 1. There are 3 different circular blades provided for cutting wood, metal or masonry. I tried the wood and masonry blades (see pictures) and found them to be most capable (of course they’re new, so they cut well). The blades are easy to change (see picture), more-so because the tool is thoughtfully designed to include a built-in spindle lock button, and an Allen key that is tethered to the power cord. After loosening the blade screw, the plunge spring force made it necessary to compress the base plate against the saw head with one hand, in order to access and remove the blade with the other hand, but this was not difficult to do. 2. A vacuum adapter hose which fits into a nozzle in the base housing, and readily fit my shop vac hose, did a really fantastic job of eliminating the dust generated from cutting a masonry cement tile (see picture). 3. A laser guide mounted above the saw head, which is actuated by a separate switch. The laser delivered a clear, easily read line even in the presence of indirect sunlight (see picture). 4. An adjustable rip guide that fastens to the base plate, to assist with trimming long cuts from boards (as noted above long straight cuts were uncomfortable to complete). 5. Finally, a compact canvas bag is provided for convenient storage of the kit. Bottom line: If your endeavors have you routinely making plunge cuts, particularly into metal or masonry this could be a very useful tool. The vacuum attachment is very effective at minimizing dust when cutting masonry and sheet rock. However, if your projects primarily call for straight utility cuts, this might not be right for you.

          All in one
I really needed this 3 1/2 " Plunge compact circular saw kit. It even has a lazer guidance light. It comes complete with carrying bag, miter saw attachment, for making up to 45 degrees cuts, vacuum attachment hose for collecting sawdust,.allen wrench for changing blades, and even 3 blades, one for wood, one for metal, and one for masonry. This quite the handiest tool in my collection. It is powerful, easy to use, even can cut scrolls. I am very well pleased with it.

          Handy little saw
Don't try to build a house with this saw, but it is very useful during a remodel or in tight spaces or if your project isn't portable. The laser directs you to exactly where you are going to cut and the plunge feature keeps the platform level on your surface. It works like a champ to cut holes through drywall for new electrical boxes rather than drilling a pilot hole and using a jigsaw. The miter attachment which comes in the box isn't of much use to me since we have a compound miter saw for cutting trim, etc., although the big saw isn't very portable and this little one can work inside the house. You might appreciate this one if you are still using the old wooden miter box with hand saw because it is a huge improvement over those days. The supplied hose for dust collection went on the saw without issues but I kinked it when I was trying to remove it which isn't an issue for us because we tend not to use dust collection anyway. I worry about the depth adjustment lever because it is plastic, but the tool itself seems pretty sturdy. The saw, extra blades, and miter attachment fit nicely in the divided canvas bag which is included in the package.
