Product Overview

The Genesis GPS2304 5 in. Random Orbit Sander brings fast, swirl-free sanding from the commercial woodworking shop to the home workshop. It uses a standard 8-hole pattern 5 in. hook-and-loop sanding disc. Dust collection is through the pad into the included dust bag. The dual action of spinning and orbiting at the same time increases the sanding rate by 50% over a standard palm sander. It also creates a random sanding action that eliminates swirl marks in the final preparation of your work piece. A 3-Piece Sanding Disc assortment is included.

The use and care manual has the manufactures information to contact for warranty and parts. If you do not have the manual, you can get a copy from the Home Depot website on the products page under info & guides next to the product overview.

Fits My Hand!
I enjoy using this little orbital sander. It fits my hand and is easy for me to move around my work area. It would fit a little better if the top portion had an indention for my fingers, but all-in-all, as a women using the sander, it fit my hand. It came with a dust catcher bag but as the other review I've read, it may work better if I connect it to my Shop Vac. It also came with 3 sanding discs that are easy to remove and change out. Would I purchase again? Yes.

Great sander but confused about discs
I love how the round sheet of “sandpaper” attach to the sander. They just stick to the sander with a Velcro like attachment or as they call it in the manual, a “hook-and-loop” attachment. I have another orbital sander and that has to clamp on rectangular pieces of sandpaper. That is really awkward to do but it does have the advantage of using regular sheets of sandpaper. The round ones go on really well. I was going to rent a floor sander to redo my bedroom floor but I think I might just use this one now. The floor isn’t in that bad shape so I think this sander can do it. I called customer service to find out what kind of sandpaper disc I should use as I thought they would be specially designed for this tool. I was told you can buy them in any hardware store. When I looked at the Home Depot website though I was confused. There are some without holes, some with different hole configurations, some that say they screw on and some that seem to be stick on. I ended up emailing the company and a guy emailed me a few times. For some reason they don’t have the sanding discs listed on their website for sale – they just have polishing discs listed. I was still a little confused but I’ll just take one of the discs to Home Depot and check with them.

Good entry level sander
This is a fine entry level sander. With a 2 amp motor, it is definitively not the most powerful on the market, but it will get the occasional sanding job done. As for any entry level product, I tend do discard the original sanding discs and replace them with some quality ones such as Diablos, it makes a massive difference. I also use a respirator which makes the sanding process somewhat bearable. The dust collector works just OK as many of these random orbital sanders, and I much prefer to hook the sander directly to a shop vac by simply using duct tape, not very pretty but works fine. Overall, this is a very fine product for the price. The product will get most jobs done for the weekend dyer.

Solid Sander
I've owned a few orbital sanders in my day and none are/were better than this one. It's solid, a good weight, and works like a charm. Out of the box it comes with 3 sanding pads: 80 grit, 100 grit and 120 grit, which is a great start for most woodworking projects. I immediately used mine to finish a table i was building for a friend; it worked as expected with no hassle or fuss. Fits well into your hand and doesn't overly vibrate and seems to have a tough motor that can take some long term use. As with most dust bags on appliances this one only works so-so, but dust is not a big problem with this type of sander.

Pretty Impressive
I was unfamiliar with the Genesis brand of tools from Rich Power but so far I am pleasantly surprised with the quality and features of the product. My old orbital sander had issues with its bearings and the hook backing pad didn't do a very good job of holding the hook and loop sanding disks long enough to get the full life out of them. This unit holds the disks throughout the life of the disk. Unlike my old sander, the on/off switch is on the front while my old one had switches on the left and right sides. That old design led to me accidentally turning off the sander on numerous occasions. This design seems like an improvement. The motor is strong enough and speed fast enough that the disks produce a good cutting action without having to use any downward pressure on the sander just as the manual indicates. The design of the gripping area seems just fine for my hand and after an hour of use I didn't seem to have any hand fatigue. The dust collection feature also seems to work better than on my old sander. I used it today to sand old pallet wood and some pieces of reclaimed 2x4 to make a plant stand for my wife. (See pictures.) The motor didn't seem to heat up after about an hour of use. I used it with 80, 100, and 120 grit and did a bit of final sanding by hand with 180 since I did not have any finer disks with the 8-hole design readily available but the finish 120 grit was pretty darn smooth and swirls were not visible to my eyes. This brand seems well worth a look if you are in the market for an orbital sander. The price seems aggressive and the quality seems to be there as well.
