So Quiet!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had a previous garage door opener, so this was a fairly easy install when it came to switching without needing lots of measurements. I'm also a fairly decent DIYer, so I have a bit more knowledge then that of someone with zero experience. The side sensors are a little large. They stick out, so be careful when you walk by them as you may snag them. I like the remotes because they are small and easy to store in the motorcycle or the car. Now to the actual machine. For it being a chain, it is very quiet. You can't hear the cling and clank of the chain and it's such a smooth glide when the tensions are installed right. It's small and sleek and brings a different world to garages because of how nice looking it is. The lighting is decent enough to light up the garage well enough for short periods of time. There is an optional wifi enabled part of it that allows you to open it via your smart phone. I purchased that separately and it is very much worth it so I can open the garage door while away for family members or our delivery guys we trust to leave packages in the garage. My wife loves she can be working out without hearing the garage door below her as we have a FROG.

Pretty easy install.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I would set aside an entire day just to relieve the pressure. My install was easier because there was a previous garage door opener that had been taken down, so it cut down on alot of measuring. There is also tons of install videos that I found super helpful to go along with the manual. I did find the car button, and garage button to be very small and not very heavy duty. Some things seem to be made well, and other parts I question the longevity. I'm also concerned about the maintenance the chain is going to require throughout time, to stay as quiet and smooth as it is now. As of now, it has a bright light, and runs quiet and smooth. For me, in a few hours time, its a win!

Good No-frills Opener
I needed to replace my 15-year old Legacy garage door opener when its motor finally gave out. The Genie Chain Drive 500 seemed a good, basic, no-frills choice, and I'm happy with it. It programmed fine to an old Genie remote and to my car's Homelink (which took a few tries, but I blame that on persnickety Homelink, not Genie). I did need to take down the old garage door opener completely, except for the bracket attached to the door itself. Combined time to take down the old one, assemble and install the new one (having never done this before), was about 5 hours. This can be done as a 1 person job, but there are a few steps where an extra person would really be helpful.

It was hard to figure out how to program. I even called the help number and it stated it was a 5 hour wait for help. My husband continued to work with it. After an hour he did get it programmed.
The opener is very quite. I have been pleased with the performance so far.

Was successful with the installation. One problem was related to the polarity of the wiring to the safe-T-beam and (simple) wall console. The installation instructions that the wire supplied with the product has one white conductor and one striped conductor. The wire I received did NOT and has both conductors to have white insulation. This did not seem to matter for the safe-T-beam but it DOES matter for the wall console (the LED light may not light up when applying power. If it does not, just reverse the wires and it should work then. Talked to the support folks about this, and they were not receptive to the idea to improve the installation documentation. The adjustments are slick though! This is my third generation Genie: I had two old ones model GS 200 SR installed in 1975. One broke down earlier and I replaced it with a G series about 10 years ago. I just replace my second old one with the 1035. Quite an improvement. Note that I had very little space between ceiling and opened garage door. Only a chain type opener would do.

I bought this opener earlier this month and had it recently installed (3 days ago). I like it so far. Its very quiet which is great for an attached garage. My old unit (a Hercules) was very loud. The emergency release also seems to work smoother then the last unit. I am definitely considering purchasing this unit again. The remote is pretty tiny but I'm okay with that. No complaints or issues to report.

I needed a new garage door opener and decided on the Genie ½ hp, Chain Drive Garage Door Opener. This unit is designed for sectional doors up to 7 feet height and 350 lbs. Installation was straight forward and the instructions are easy to follow. It includes a push-button wall control, car remote control and Safe-T-Beam System to reverse the closing door if anything passes through infrafed beam. It also works with popular built-in car remote systems like HomeLink and Car2U.
On the negative side, this is a budget model and comes with only basic features. It would be ideal for a starter home or rental property. It comes with 5-year limited lifetime warranty.

This garage door is five star performance. It runs very quiet, I find myself peaking out the door to check if it actually opened or closed. Instructions are very easy to follow and program other genie products. My only issue with this unit was programming non-genie products. I followed the genie intellicode 2 instructions but could not get any products to sync after the step where you push your synced genie remote. I ended up calling customer support and they concluded that the motor unit runs off a 60 hz frequency and that is not typical with universal accessories and that's probably the reason. The price point is great though and it runs smooth and quiet and its compatible with the genie Aladdin so you might want to upgrade your accessories anyway.

I would recommend Genie Chain Drive Garage Door opener. When the package arrives they have all the parts sorted for you in different color bags, very easy to find all the parts that you need. The directions could not be easier to follow, they give you a fold out picture and instructions on how to do the entire hook up and you can go to their web and watch installation videos. We needed an upgraded garage door opener and this one works. It looks like it is built to last. This one is made for a garage door that weighs less then 350 lbs if yours is over that you need the next size up. The garage door goes up and down smoothly with no problem. Programming the door opener included was easy to understand and do. Links up to your cars remote. 1/2 HP c DC motor. Rail system that just snaps together. Infared beams to keep the family safe, if anything happens in front of it the door will open.
