Questions & Answers

How long do hard wired smoke and CO alarms last, when would thy be replaced?

How long do hard wired smoke and CO alarms last, when would thy be replaced?
Asked by: GHS
Depends on the sensor and your level of risk. The recommendation is 10 years. If they are in your home and well maintained (dust free) they can last longer, but with all things, there is a risk. It they are not in a place where they are well maintained, such as a rental, tenant damage usually shortens their life to less than 10 years requiring periodic replacement anyway.

If one tandem connected alarm senses smoke and alarms, the the others that are connected in tandem will also alarm. I am wondering if the form "C" relay contacts will also function in the tandem connect units, or just in the one that sensed the smoke?
Asked by: mark3381
When the GN-503 products are tandem interconnected, all alarms will sound. If there is a unit in tandem that includes one set of Form C contacts being used, then the contact will change position regardless of which unit goes into alarm.
