Q:Is there any way to remedy the results this product had on my concrete? Despite applying smoothly and evenly, it left essentially dark spots in a spray pattern from the sprayer we used and the concrete looks worse now then when we started?

Answer This Question

A:  Like traditional acid-etching formulations, Eco-Etch 1001 breaks down the surface by chemically reacting with the concrete to remove the top layer. The concentration level (and dwell time) can have a direct impact on the effectiveness of the reaction. The longer you allow it to dwell, the more aggressive the etching. Dilution can also impact strength of the etching. Based on the information provided, there is high probability the etching process was not complete. Strength and/or dwell time was not sufficient enough to achieve a consistent etch. We recommend applying the product a second time and allow a longer dwell time before rinsing. Note: Longer dwell times will increase surface porosity and profile. Concrete etchers are typically used to prepare surfaces for a top coating. If your goal is cleaning the concrete, we would recommend a cleaner like MicroDegreaser 1100 or a bleach/water mixture.

Q:Can this product clean old Pavestone pavers safely?
      by|Jan 5, 2023

      Answer This Question

A:  Thanks for showing an interest in Ghostshield. Etching compounds are designed to breakdown the top layer of concrete (or paver). They are typically used to create a surface profile suitable for a coating. Some people may use etchers to dissolve a top layer of concrete that contains permanent stains they were unable to remove using a degreaser or surface cleaner. Be aware that etchers are designed to break down concrete. If you are concerned about this happening, I would start with Ghostshield MicroDegreaser 1100. If you are unable to remove the dirt, grime or stains, Ghostshield Eco-Etch 1001 would be the second choice.

        Left dark spray spots
We applied with a sprayer as instructed, at full strength, and it left dark marks in the shape of the sprayer. Tried to do a second round which made it worse.

            Good product!
I had a basement bathroom floor finishing g project that required concrete etching. Not crazy about muriatic acid in an indoor setting. Went with Eco-Etch 1001. Low fumes, low skin burn risk , and it etched the concrete. Recommended!

                  Did not work on sealer.
We used Siloxa-tek 8500 and was a year old and the stain was still lifting. We learned from Ghostshield that we should have used another type of their sealer to go over stain. So we asked if the etching would break the seal and etch the profile and we were assured it would. It was NOT suggested to use it full strength, so we diluted it to be a little stronger than what is suggested on the label reducing it by one part. First we used a power washer which blew off some of the stain. Then we let it sit and scrubbed in with stiff brush and then worked in with high grit metal sander pad. The sealer did not come off. We will have to have it ground off mechanically.
