Product Overview

  • Industrial-grade sealer reduces water and moisture intrusion
  • Protects concrete or masonry substrates from aggressive salts
  • Seals concrete, brick, driveways, basements and more
An industrial-grade, water-based, silane/siloxane engineered to reduce water and moisture intrusion, while protecting concrete or masonry substrates from chlorides and deicing salts. Siloxa-Tek 8500 is our favorite product to treat nearly any application. A proprietary blend of silane/siloxanes, this clear penetrating sealer not only prevents deicing salt and freeze-thaw damage, but its hydrophobic nature resists moisture intrusion and vapor transmission. This is the go to choice to seal any concrete, brick, or masonry based substrate especially driveways, basements, patios and garages.
  • Prevention from freeze-thaw attack and ASR by preventing the ingress of water, prevents further damage to reinforced concrete by limiting the substrate water content, chloride and other aggressive salts
  • Provides increased protection as a hydrophobic barrier to prevent future penetration of water and soluble aggressive agents through a crack, provides protection from spalling and pitting as a result of aggressive salts and chlorides
  • Alkali resistant, freeze-thaw/de-icing salt resistant, UV resistant, reduces vapor transmission, water beading (water repellent effect)
  • Supplied ready to use, easy to apply, effective penetration depth, seals pores and capillaries while remaining breathable
  • Reduction of dirt pick-up, reduces risk of efflorescence, protection against micro-organism growth
  • No change in appearance of the substrate, the treated surface does not become glossy, tack free, durable finish
  • No formation of harmful by-products, low VOC's
  • Online Price includes Paint Care fee in the following states: CA, CO, CT, ME, MN, OR, RI, VT

I have a concrete patio slab, if I apply this can I paint over it?

I have a concrete patio slab, if I apply this can I paint over it?
Asked by: rpinch
Possibly, but you'd need to make sure the paint would adhere to the waterproofing, so you would probably need to prime it first. Alternatively, if you're looking to ensure your patio is waterproof, you could paint first, then apply the sealer.

Can this product be used to seal an interior block basement wall?

Asked by: JOHN
GhostShield recommended that I first prime my cinder block walls with Sil-Tek 3500 before applying the 8500.

Application Temperatures

I have a set of concrete stairs that were parged and patched 2 1/2 weeks ago. I am most interested in applying 8500 sealer now to prevent any water intrusion that might freeze and cause spauling. Present daytime temperatures are running 45-50.
Asked by: John
Concrete sealer is a chemical mixture that contains particles of chemical sealant suspended in either water or a chemical solvent. Either way, the sealers have to be stored and applied at certain temperatures to be at their most effective. To begin with storage, concrete sealers should not be stored frozen, nor should they ever be at risk of freezing. A frozen concrete sealer will feature less effective particles of chemical sealant, rendering if significantly less effective when it actually is applied (though you may not be able to tell the difference). As many concrete sealers are water-based, which are undoubtedly better concrete sealing options, they are also at risk for freezing . The surface of the concrete and the environment of the room in which the concrete sealer is being applied should not dip below around 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Below 50 degrees Fahrenheit, the concrete is too cold to allow the concrete sealer to penetrate or bond to the surface effectively, depending on which type of sealer you are using. The concrete and the room in which it is being applied should not exceed approximately 90 degrees Fahrenheit either, nor should it be applied in direct sunlight.

Would Spray Foam still bond to a Cinder Block surface(basement wall) with this product applied
Asked by: SC
The Siloxa-Tek 8500 would be the best product for you to use on the walls. This formula can even be painted over with an enamel or oil based paint, so spray foam should be fine.

I mixed the product with water and a used a roller to apply. The proof will be in the winter and how it really works. I was pleased with the ease of application and it did dry clear. I used that product from the garage opening to the middle of the driveway. I used Ghostshield 4500 the for the apron area as that area get the salt from the street. Then I used Ghostshield 9500 for the rest of the driveway that one altered the color of my driveway just a bit.

Siloxa-Tek 8500 goes on easily and is well absorbed, leaving an invisible finish; i.e., it soaks into the cement and does not sit on the top. Water beads off of the resulting bearer. My only complaint is the cost, which is quite high. Having just applied it to my aggregate driveway, I don't know what it's longevity will be like. However, it should be pretty good given that the compounds in the repellent chemically bond with the cement.

We recently purchased our first new home and wanted to make sure we sealed the driveway, small walkway and stairs leading into our house at our builders suggestion. He recommended a couple of options and this was one of them. We are not the handiest people out there but this was one of the easier projects we did. The sealer was concentrated, we mixed it with 4 gallons of water and opted to roll it onto our concrete as opposed to spraying it as also suggested. We worked in small areas sealing each section twice before doing the next section. The sealer dried completely invisible however anytime it got wet with snow and it melted, throughout the winter you could clearly see that something was there protecting the concrete. Great product, highly recommend it.

Of course, won't really know how it is as a product until it has been through at least one winter/rainy season Will update review in future...if I can figure out how - and if something is negative. So far, so good.

I applied this product, let it dry 72 hours, then sprayed it with a hose. Typically, it would drip after 6 minutes of watering, but after 12 minutes of water, no drips. Appears to work. Hopefully, it will hold over time.
