About This Product

A moisture vapor barrier coating designed to waterproof concrete floors. Controls moisture vapor emission rates up to 20lb/24 hr/1000 ft. prior to the application of epoxy flooring, hardwood flooring, carpet and tile. This product reduces the permeance of moisture vapor through concrete substrates to levels that are acceptable for the installation of hardwood flooring, carpet and tile. Flooring is protected and kept dry eliminating the risk of mold and mildew. The high performance and quick installation features of this system make it an ideal solution. Meets ASTM F3010 for vapor permeance. Supplied as a 2-component kit and easily applied with a squeegee, nap roller or brush, the Vapor-Tek 440 can be used on a variety of horizontal concrete applications. Recommended for areas with high risks of moisture intrusion, hydrostatic pressure and vapor transmission such as basements and warehouse floors. For interior use only, grinding or etching of the surface is recommended prior to application. Keep in mind this product has a quick set up time. Once Part A and Part B are mixed you have 5-25 minutes to apply the product before it begins to harden. Mix in small batches following the 2 Parts A to 1 Part B mix ratio to extend the pot life. Used as a primer before installing a durable concrete coating system or flooring such as hardwood, tile or carpet. It is recommended a calcium chloride test be performed prior to application to determine if this product is right for you.

I read that a topcoat of urethane should be applied over epoxy floors as a sealant to prevent cracking and yellowing or an extra layer of protection. Is this recommended for this kit?

What type of urethane filler do you recommend to fill saw cuts? I want my garage floor to be as smooth as possible..mostly for visual reasons

Answer This Question

Thanks for showing an interest in Ghostshield products. Although urethane fillers are acceptable, we recommend polyurea filler to ensure a nice solid finish. A polyurea base filler will cure must faster and will be much harder. For an invisible transition, we recommend grinding the joint smooth using a hand grinding wheel (once filled / cured). If you are looking for a polyurea based joint filler, call 855-573-8383 and one of our product specialists can help you.

Can this be applied to concrete that has remnants of old carpet adhesive and paint droppings? See photo attached. Also, can this be applied to concrete that meets a layer of glued-down vinyl sheet in another room?

      Answer This Question

Thanks for showing an interest in Ghostshield products. Vapor-Tek 440 must come into direct contact with the concrete to benefit from the 20psi moisture prevention rating. It is also recommended the surface be profiled to at least a CSP level 3. In order to achieve this, we recommend grinding the surface using a hand grinder or floor grinder. This process will remove the glue easily.

        Basement floor
I was originally going to use Ghostshield 9500 on my basement concrete before putting down a Vapor barrier and installing LVP , but after talking with Reta who recommended that I do a Vapor test first ,which I did and found I had 10lbs of water pressure, she recommended Vapor-Tek 440, I grinded the floor, cleaned and vacuumed and applied Vapor Tek 440 waited a few days then installed the LVP. Dehumidifier is not running as much now, floor came out great.

Sealing Patio Flooring For Enclosure Project
Great product, but make sure your contractor thoroughly reviews and understands the product mixing and application instructions and views Ghostshield's supporting videos. My contractor, after mixing the first kit, didn't apply and spread the product with enough haste and as a result, some product was not evenly spread on the patio floor and some product was wasted in the mixing container. In our case the product began to cure at around 20 minutes after final mixing and the curing goes from a fluid spreadable liquid to a gel, un-spreadable, almost instantaneously. My project requires almost 2 kits so we were able to grind and buff smooth the rough and uneven areas and are ready to apply the product to the remaining patio floor.

Potentially great product but working time is to short
Working on a basement that had potential moisture issues so decided to give this a try for the first time opposed to our go to. This product could really be 5 stars but its just not there yet. The first 3 minutes, I give this 5 stars all the way, you can tell the coverage is great and really sticks to properly prepared concrete. However after about 3 minutes, this starts to harden very quickly at the point where half the product skimmed over on top and was no longer usable. The instructions state to use a 3/8 nap roller, this is a mistake, do not do this. You need to spread this product exactly how they show on the video using a notched squeegee, in fact I would practice spreading water in your drive way to get the hang of it first. You can then back roll if you like but definitely use a 18" roller with a foam type roller made for epoxy which are usually 1/4 nap. We had two guys on this job and we were still not quick enough to complete one kit before it started to really heat up and harden. We bought 2 kits to use, and returned the second and just going to grind off and go with our usual brand that gives us much more pot life. Hopefully they reformulate this, or if home depot carried it in a smaller amount so you don't have to worry about spreading so much in the allotted time it might work better. In case your wondering, we applied this at about 60 degrees and 40% humidity and stored the product the night before at the job site.

                    Unique product
I could find no other product that could hold back 20 lbs water hydraulics coming up thru my garage floor in spots. Covered the treated area with epoxy 48 hrs later. Great chemistry. Thank You. Denny Devlin

                      Great product
Easy to work with. Covered more than stated amount and the floor we covered was not smooth. It had a lot of pock marks. We also couldn’t get all of the old paint off the concrete. But we scuffed it really too and it adhered great.
