I would highly suggest using a continuous piece. If using the multi piece flashing, you will have to monitor the seal more often then if it were one piece. Water always finds the path of least resistance.

IRC code requires 26 gauge or .019 mil thick flashing if using galvanized steel for chimney flash...

this kit requires a hammer, roofing nails, drill, roof cement, tin snips, and masonry fasteners. The installation instructions are in the product description.
