Questions & Answers

Which side of the window do you apply the film?

Asked by: Dave
You will want to apply this film to the inside of the window, if you apply it to the outside of the windows the film will fall off quicker than it would if at all on the inside.

I needed something to block the sun and heat from coming in my balcony windows and help cut my cooling costs. This product does the trick very nicely. Follow the manufacturer's instructions completely. Use the spray extremely heavy. It acts like a lubricant for smoothing. Use the spray on the outside of the tint before smoothing too. It will make the film apply easier. Take your time with this product as it can and will frustrate you. Take breaks between windows completing one at a time. Do not rush the job. I did 3 patio windows 3 feet wide and 6 feet tall. It took me about an hour each from unrolling the film to final trimming. I'm no pro but the job came out perfect taking my time.

Very easy to install, once you figure out the key: use plenty of the liquid spray on the glass and both sides of the film. I had no trouble installing on four 33x73 sliding door panes by myself. Use 1/2 cap baby shampoo in 32 oz water and have plenty mixed up and ready to use. I also bought a new squeeze just for this installation. Be sure to squeegee thoroughly and press moderately hard. The film may have some slight visual ripples when first installed but these flatten out when dried overnight. The film definitely reduced heat gain and is very mirror-like from the outside during the day and from the inside at night.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the job great stuff (needs patience to install!!!) Don't listen to all the negative review's! I used this film on my home and camper! it really cuts down on the load on the AC! especially in my Camper! it provides privacy during the day! as with any mirror films the side with the most light can see the darker side so No it doesn't provide privacy at night unless you have lights outside that are brighter than the inside! as far as installing it? it takes time and patience to do it right planning your project properly will save you a lot of headache! yes the glass will be warmer to the touch but that's the heat the film is blocking from entering your home! there are trick's to ease installation I learned from a pro you have to pre trim it to fit before removing the backing!!!! then use some scotch tape to pull up a corner! also some painter's masking tape could help hold it in place depending on the job! search the web for installation help/videos! you may make some mistakes at first but trust me once you Know how to handle this stuff you could install it blindfolded! also some people have said it's too shiny??? it's looks like a grey mirror in bright light one more pointer! (DON'T USE AMMONIA CLEANERS!) It will destroy the adhesive!!!!! the window on the right in the photo is treated with this product.

The install went wel. We needed to have two of us to do a nice job b/c the windows are pretty big. We did one window in the room and left an adjacent window "undone" to see if indeed there was any reduction on the glass temperature as a result of the film being in place. I used the very scientific method of placing my hands on each window pane. Results: A resounding , NO; Not a bit of difference. The film may cut glare and it may protect furnishings from fading... but it won't make a lick of difference in the temperature of the inside glass pane or the temperature of the room in which it is installed.

We did not fully believe that this was a real solution to our strong Florida sunshine through the windows. So, we tested one pane with the film and one pane without. The results were "right at hand" the next morning when the sunlight hit the panes. The pane with the film had about half the heat buildup (temperature) than the pane with no film; much to our surprise. So we purchased another roll and proceeded to do the entire house whether the sun hit the pane or not. You really cannot ascertain how much energy you've saved by using this film; but you can be sure it must be something by just physically touching the window panes before and after. The entire project was only $70 in materials and five hours of DIY - so we found the project well worth the cost and effort. The photograph attached shows one of the West facing windows with the Titanium Control Window Film applied to it. The difference in this room's temperature is astounding - much less heat than without the film.

Had to remove the skylight for horizontal installation, otherwise easy to install. Really reduced the heat and direct light coming from that skylight. A great improvement. Still very clear, not blocking the light, just a very light tint.

I ended up with creases even after a few attempts. They did make the room much darker than I expected so I would have removed it even if there were no creases. If you do try this film get someone to help you.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy This item is very hard to put on the windows It creases and you cannot straighten the creases in the film out There are bubbles even weeks after the film was applied It will not stick on the cornered of the windows I would not recommend this product to anyone
