Questions & Answers

Reliability of Tension Installation

I am surious about the actual ease of keeping a curved rod in place using tension as the attaching force. With a straight rod it is obvious how this would work but with a curved rod I envision something that would have a tendency to slip or let go. Are these semi-permanaent installations?
Asked by: Anonymous
I had mine installed for 5 days and it kept tilting and shifting more and more. It messed up the wall and ended up collapsing in and scratching the paint.

What do I need to installed a curved tension shower rod and does Home Depot have the correct supplies to install it?

We don't want to drill into our tile to put up a shower rod. So it seems our only option is a tension type curved shower rod. The tile goes up a little more than 72" and the liner would drip onto the floor with a fixed placement of the curved shower rod.
Asked by: Lanny
AS it is a tension rod you don't need any tools, just a ladder.

Does it require hooks or will it fit over rings already in the curtain and liner?

Asked by: TSoule
Rings can be used with this rod.

Shower curtain rings catch?

Do you find the rings for the curtain getting caught on the joint between the outer and inner rod?
Asked by: Steve
Installed rod, like it but I want extension to right side of tub. When installed to right flat portion of extension is on top so definitely creates "catches". How can this be fixed? It would work as intended if I could put flat side of rod to the bottom. At this time shower hooks with rollers do not transition over the flat to larger part of rod. Snags every time!

The tension mount is not as easy an install as a screwed-in one. It works but is a bit of a pain to do This is due to the difficulty of holding the rod steady while trying to install it. As a result, I'd give it a 3.5. Four things: 1) Make sure the long thin plastic insert fits in-between the two rods first. 2) To set the rod length, you will need to grab the point where the two rods meet; an extra set of hands may help. 3) The pointed set screw then locks the rod length - absolutely critical step. 4) Then it's a matter of turning the one-side until the tension locks the shower curtain rod against the opposing walls.

It took two of us to put the thing up, and my husband's an engineer! It made awful scraping noises as we screwed it against the wall, like nails going across chalkboard. It also looks kinda cheap, because the end covers are loose and you have to position it correctly when you tighten the rod to get them to stay straight. I bought curtain hooks with the balls on them, and they have trouble gliding across the rod (I even tried two different sets of curtain hooks). If it wasn't for the fact that we had guests staying with us and needed a curtain rod ASAP for our new house, I would've returned it. It gets the job done, so I don't have major complaints since it's serving its intended purpose, but I would've rather spent a little more money to get something that looks nicer.

I purchased this as part of my bathroom remodel because the old curved rod I had was curved, but mounted to the wall. I remodeled with porcelain tile so I didn't want to drill holes in my new tile. I loved the curved shower rod previously so I wanted to have it in my new bathroom. I just put this up about 30 minutes ago and I really struggled with it. One side stayed up perfectly fine, but the other side kept slipping down and I was feeling really defeated because eventually it slipped right off. I made sure to clean the tile well too. I put it back up again and kept trying to find where it would be the tightest fit and it still wanted to slip down so I ended up sticking a small 3M Velcro sticky piece under the side of the gripper that kept falling so it would stop it, like a little curb stopper, and it seems to be working for now, but we will see. Either way, I wish I didn't have to add something tacky just to make this work, but I refuse to drill into the tile because I don't want to splinter/crack it and ruin the entire job. On top of it, the aluminum end cap pieces do not secure 100% to the grippers that grip to the walls which is a bit annoying too. Will be continuing to look elsewhere for one that might work better than this one.

One day I came home to a fallen curtain & when we went to put it back up, it wouldn’t tighten enough to stay up again for more than a couple minutes. I personally watched the tightening portion untwist after tightening it down. Will be returning & will never purchase again.

You need one to hold it in place and another to tighten the screws and adjust the tension. This was a huge pain and, had I known this, I would not have purchased this product. But once up it looks nice and performs as expected.
