Questions & Answers

Reliability of Tension Installation

I am surious about the actual ease of keeping a curved rod in place using tension as the attaching force. With a straight rod it is obvious how this would work but with a curved rod I envision something that would have a tendency to slip or let go. Are these semi-permanaent installations?
Asked by: Anonymous
I had mine installed for 5 days and it kept tilting and shifting more and more. It messed up the wall and ended up collapsing in and scratching the paint.

What do I need to installed a curved tension shower rod and does Home Depot have the correct supplies to install it?

We don't want to drill into our tile to put up a shower rod. So it seems our only option is a tension type curved shower rod. The tile goes up a little more than 72" and the liner would drip onto the floor with a fixed placement of the curved shower rod.
Asked by: Lanny
AS it is a tension rod you don't need any tools, just a ladder.

Shower curtain rings catch?

Do you find the rings for the curtain getting caught on the joint between the outer and inner rod?
Asked by: Steve
I didn't have this problem, but I do have the curtain rings with little rollers on them, so I think that helps get over any hump. The rubber/silicon joiner between outer/inner is angled so it's like a ramp for them.

Does the mounting hardware pivot?

I am attaching the bar to an area where the walls are not perpendicular and need flexible or pivoting mounting
Asked by: chad
Yes... it does pivot within the limits of the mounting cups... which is not a great deal, but should be enough.

Very easy to install and the silicone type pads hold tight to my tile walls. It's much easier with an extra hand to help position in place. Watch the video on Home Depot website it helps a little. Only on for a week and it seems to be holding strong!

The shower rod does offer a little more space and is sturdy enough to hold a double curtain that I have installed. I rated it three stars because of the difference in thickness of the two rods where the adjustment is causes the curtain rings to hang up a little when closing. This is not that big of a deal but it is still frustrating at times. Also be sure to put the allen locking screw in the down position because that will also interfere with the shower curtain. After saying all that I do like the looks and the extra space which is why I would recommend it.

It is a more subtle curve than some of the permanent mount curved rods, but that is what I needed. It gave us a little more elbow room without interfering with the toilet alongside. Installation wasn't hard, but also wasn't intuitive and I had to consult the instructions. Other users complaining about the set screw getting in the way installed the rod upside down. My decorative cover plates on both ends do not snap into place and they jingle every time someone moves the curtain.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I wish I could give this zero stars I usually hate seeing people say they wish they could give something zero stars. Now I'm that person. I bought a new house. Wanted a curved shower rod (I've had one before...several in fact.) I chose this rod because it was an "adjustable tension rod" and I didn't want to put holes in my brand new walls. I've installed other rods. This one was only slightly annoying to install. I didn't use my shower right away because I was still in the process of moving. When I went to take a shower I decided the rod needed to be adjusted. Easy right?? No. It adhered to the wall and took off huge chunks of paint/drywall. So, I've readjusted it...but now I have to redo my brand new walls. I would not recommend this to someone unless you absolutely hate them. Then feel free, that's on your conscience.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Tension screw strips very easily I assembled this by myself and it went up great the first time. However, I took it down to paint my bathroom wall and loosened the tension screw to do so. This screw requires a very tiny Allen wrench included in the package. When attempting to put it back up and tighten the tension screw, it was apparent the screw had become stripped by the tool provided! Now this product is completely useless, as I cannot remove this stupid screw because it doesn't even have a lip to grab it with pliers or a wrench. Do not buy this product if you ever plan to remove it is basically how you have to approach it, because the design team at glacier bay doesn't know how to make a tension screw that is easily removable with a hand twist mechanism instead of the tiniest Allen wrench I've ever seen and a screw that's made of aluminum. So angry right now!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good! I've had this up for about a month, with daily use. I did need help putting it up, but worked like a charm. That little screw is a must, so read the directions and don't overlook it! The rod withstands a cloth curtain, a plastic liner, and I hang my towel over it to dry. Looks great and gives extra elbow room in the shower. Love that I didn't have to commit and put screw in the tile, and it's just as sturdy.

It actually took off the paint from the wall and it just had a slight curve that it would not have made that much of a difference from the regular shower curtain rod. Took it back for refund.
