5-Tier Steel Garage Storage Shelving Unit with EZ Connect (36 in. W x 72 in. H x 18 in. D)

Overall, my boss and I are very satisfied these storage shelves. This shelving is strong and easy to put together, and relatively easy to adjust afterward. The finish is textured just a bit to give it a better look than plain black paint (see pic). I cannot speak to its durability as I have only had it a week, but it seems like it will last.. One negative is how beat up one of the boxes was upon delivery; it was trashed on the ends. Because of this, an entire box of the middle support rods was lost during transport, as it is packaged at the end. This meant calling the manufacturer, who was very nice/helpful; unfortunately, that particular part was on backorder. Next, I had to call Home Depot to return and re-order the entire unit, which they gladly did for free (as they should). Wouldn't you know, the replacement box was also trashed on the ends and the same box of support pieces appeared to be missing. Luckily, this time it happened to fall deeper in to the box. Obviously, this is a package design flaw and/or a shipper issue...

Excellent product. Very well designed and solid shelving. Best I've come across. It was very easy to assemble as well. Good instructions (2 sets. one for the frame and the other for the shelves). I bought 2 different models and both are awesome.

These FAR exceeded expectations. Very sturdy and easy to assemble. Couldn’t be happier with them!

It pains me to write this but this product is one of the most ill thought out products I’ve ever put my hands on. Maybe I got a bad run as others seem to have had no problem, but I build motorcycles, rebuild cars, have a complete shop, so I’m not mechanically challenged, but in trying to make it easy to assemble they’ve made it almost impossible to put together. The tabs and slots they go into are punched out to a very close tolerance, and in their initial production, probably joined together with no problem. THEN THEY POWDER COATED THE PARTS, which completely eliminated all tolerances, allowing nothing to fit together without either bending the tabs out, or grinding out the slots in which they reside. Plus, the upright tabs made to lock the top and bottom together, are flimsy and because of poor packing, came bent as well and to be straightened. I tried fitting it together how they suggested, but after struggling endlessly with each piece enough to actually have me actually yelling at the product, I got out a pry bar to bend the tabs and some vice grips to bend the ears back from being distorted when I bent the tabs, and put it together. I wasn’t going to grind out the slots because if I removed the powder coating it would have invited rust. When they say ‘No tools required’ they need to finish that sentence with ‘except a pry bar, grinder and metal work experience’. This is the first Gladiator product I’ve purchased. Normally I’ve stayed with Husky. They use rivets and slots to hold their products together, not one piece of bent punched out metal to save on production costs and take it out on the customer. Tolerances were terrible, what was supposed to be bent out wasn't bent out enough and what was supposed to be straight, was bent. And because it relied on 'bent metal' to seat each piece, some pieces rode higher in the slots than others, which make for an uneven mounting surface. No more Gladiator for me!

I endorsed this shelving years ago (for a unit that seemed it could hold elephants). I bought a new one recently and must share that the quality has sadly nosedived. The metal on the new one bent and twisted like cheap tinfoil during assembly, which I stopped halfway through. Several EZ Connect ‘punchout” lips were too subtle to grab the insert slots and the lip edges of the horizontals were very susceptible to bending outward under pressure. One of the vertical connectors curled up like a noodle as it started to slide into the next component. That was my sign to quit and load it all up for a drive back to the store. Perhaps I just got one from a recall-worthy production batch, but the Recency Effect says ‘prior endorsement retracted.’ Apologies to the nice lady at Customer Service who received a flat cart of mangled metal with a cordial smile (hiding behind the mask).

Great product! Loved the fact it didn’t require any tools! The first one wasn’t as easy to put together as the second one. Once you get the hang of it, it’s fairly easy to assemble for two people. One person could assemble it but it would take a bit longer. We took about 30 minutes assembling the first one and about 20 minutes for the second one. It’s very sturdy!!

The shelves are particle board, they do have a support bar in the middle which is nice but still particle board flats on the shelves. The shelves have pretty beefy metal verticles and horizontas but when assembled they can be a little wobbly and there are no feet adjustments for leveling the shelves. The way they connect verticaly in the middle adds to wobbliness screwing mine to the wall helped

Krappy Flimsy Laminate Shelving. If youre using these for regular garage home stuff (sporting goods/ clothes/ kitchen stuff/ boxes..etc) then theyll be great but for Heavy Machinery/Tool storage or anything that needs heavy duty support: DO NOT BUY! Solid frame but terrible shelving. Please spend a couple more dollars and buy shelving that’ll last decades. Read the specifications and make sure your buying metal shelving!

While I did not assemble the shelving (my husband was the guy for that job) it appeared to have gone fairly smoothly. Lining up the tabs to lock together was the biggest challenge. As far as the structure itself, it is exactly what I was hoping for. I organized much of my garden art (some heavy large concrete leaves and smaller urns) and many other items that were stacked on the floor seasonally for years. My husband braced the shelving into wall studs for additional support. The shelves are quite heavy duty. Because they are powder coated and I didn't want to scratch them (which could invite rust since the shelving is in the basement) I laid down some towels before placing the heavier concrete items. I looked at other shelving and reviews before deciding on Gladiator and am extremely happy with both quality and price.
