There is always a work around. Most joists are 16 inches on center. If this isn't the case for you, and the area in question, is say in a garage where it doesn't need to look pretty, then you can run and attached any various length of a 2X4 piece of wood, EXPOSED onto the face of the sheet rock ceilings or walls if necessary, to the needed length between the existing joist lengths. Measure the the CLAWS to the needed spacing for your bike front/back tires and attached them to the 2X4. Then store your bike in the CLAWS.
