Globe Electric's All in One New Construction Recessed Lighting Mounting Plate can be used with most 3, 4, and 5 in. recessed kits and is ideal for use in new construction projects and suspended ceilings. Best used with standard strong to lightweight ceiling tiles (5/8 in. thickness). Four 12 in. hanger bars are included allowing for recessed remodel kits to be installed in new construction installations. Made of strong aluminum so your light is sure to be secure for a long time.
  • Practical and easy to install: includes four 12 in. hanger bars to allow for easy adjustment and easy installation
  • Universal sizing: can be used with Globe Electric's 3 in., 4 in. or 5 in. recessed lighting kits. Actual hole sizes: 3.25 in., 3.88 in., 4.25 in. and 4.5 in.
  • Robust construction: made of durable aluminum, this piece will last as long as your lights do or longer

Will this work with a 4" square recessed fixture w/ square trim? The description says yes, but someone here said no.

Yes I had to take one of the round spacers off of the mount by prying up a few tabs and then it worked fine.

how would you install on open rafter ceiling

no drywall/drop ceiling installation

Thank you for your inquiry. Using the new construction mounting plate (90141) you can install the plate directly into the joists. This will allow you to determine where you want to position each light as well as help pull wires to the correct place.The recessed light itself needs to be wired and installed only after the drywall is put up..
