An elegant addition to a rooftop or garden
This handcrafted copper finial has an impressive size, a wholesome weight, and is very well made. It would look great on a rooftop, but it also can be placed anywhere in your landscaping as a decorative accent. The copper finial is 39" tall, and the globe section is 4" wide. The 3/4" black steel pole is 21" long (12" slide into the finial, and 9" remain for mounting). There are 4 tiny holes, which I am assuming are drainage holes.
The polished copper is beautiful, and should start to lose the shine in about a month and turn into a tarnished patina. It can be sprayed with a lacquer coating if you want to keep the shiny copper look.
When I acquire a mounting bracket, I plan on mounting this finial on a wooden post in the middle of my tulip garden so that we can enjoy looking at it from our dining room picture window. It would look gorgeous on the square copper finial cap, but HD does not sell the caps separately.

Real Handcrafted Copper
I have ordered things that claimed to be copper, and were not. So, I was leery. This is real copper (magnet does not stick). It is not copper colored or copper plated. This is solid and clearly handcrafted. You can see the beautiful soldering and feel the hammering in the metal. It seems to be uncoated (my hands smelled of copper after handling). So, should have a perfect patina in a couple years.
I got it for ornamentation in my front yard, but after seeing how nice it is ... figure it would not 'stay' in my front yard. Decided to mount it on my carriage house, where it will be safer (Hope it does not act as a lighting rod?!?!). Easily mounted, using the included 3/4" mounting bar.
40" sounds big, but once it is in place, I would not want it any smaller.
