Questions & Answers

Not once have I been able to spray anything but water without getting the tip clogged

Just using regular latex paint (Behr). I've even thinned it a little with water and bought a new tip thinking that was the problem. Any ideas?
Asked by: SeattleBob
I have used every type of spray rig out there from 5GPM piston driven to the smaller .30GPM diaphragm units. I am sure everyone here agrees, strain the paint, keep it clean and don't thin latex paint, ever. Never let the unit sit in paint for any period more than a few minutes. When clogging is an issue, it is either dirty paint, dirty spray rig or the unit is not coming up to pressure. It is imperative that a GOOD clean up after each use is done. . Don't just run water through it, use an approved cleaner. If any material is left in the hose, it WILL break off and clog the gun to the point it will pi$$ you off to no end. When done with a job, take special care to remove the feed tube, clean it well, flush the rig with a cleaner. If you are using oil based paint flush with spirits, lacquer based use lacquer thinner, water based use clean fresh water. make sure to relieve any pressure in the line before storing the unit. i can assure you that there is nothing in the unit that will cause clogs, it is always the media you are spraying or a dirty hose/pump. Keep the filters clean both at the feed and at the gun. You may need to procure a new hose if it continues. I always remove the tip and let the unit build up to pressure and hit the trigger, and repeat for several times. There will always be some clogs, that is why they went to the reversible tip.

In reading reviews, some talk about back roling has me wondering if its necessary. looks like that would defeat the time saving part of spraying!

Asked by: Dale
Back rolling is great if there are two of you with only one ladder on a two or more story building and you're in a hurry! You lean out over the ladder as far as you dare and get the paint on the wall with the spray gun. The other guy on the ground flattens out the paint with a roller on an extension pole. Keep moving the ladder around and don't fall off of it!

Can i use this paint sprayer to apply semi transparent thompson waterseal?

Was told at the store not to so i didnt buy it. I have a lot of lattice and brush painting is not fun:(
Asked by: Becky
Sure you can. But you want to use a smaller tip like a 315 or better maybe a 311. I would also suggest that you consider buying another line. Just a 25 footer. That way you can have one line you use latex material for and the other would be oil- based products. That's the way I used to do it. It will save you a lot of headaches so far as material breaking loose in the line and the plugging the gun up. It's just a pain to have to deal with that if you can avoid it.
