Questions & Answers

Can I put more than one of these together?

I have a 24 ft space on the back of my garage. Would I be able to join 3 of these together?
Asked by: ndkmk
Yes. Each post has dovetail grooves on each face, so you could connect multiple beds together.

Can this be easily disassembled if you wanted to move it in the future to a different location?

Asked by: JS
This would likely be problematic due to the wood joints swelling.

4 ft. x 4 ft. x 10.5 in. Original Cedar Raised Garden Bed is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 1165.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible, Extremely Disappointed! I bought these because they were supposed to be cedar. They deteriorated within 1 year. I buy cedar for it's natural ability to repel termites. However, whatever this is actually made from (which it was most certainly not cedar) seemed to do nothing but attract termites. Having to take them apart and dispose of them after 1 year was extremely disappointing and a complete waste of money. When I burned the boards it became even more clear that these were not cedar at all. I have other raised beds that are true cedar. These were next to these beds. No termites in the cedar beds I built myself. I only recommend this product if you like spending hundreds of dollars replacing your beds each year.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Rotted and warped after 2 years use We bought many of these beds for a community garden, creating beds of various heights and shapes. We were very pleased with how easily they were assembled and how beautiful they looked. We put an outline of the space with bricks so that the cedar would not directly touch the ground. Now after two years, some of the planks have warped, letting soil leak through. We put boards in at 2 feet which we nailed the planks to. Also there is rot at the dovetailed ends of planks and the posts. We reversed the posts and replaced some planks. I think the sides that come in contact with soil should be lined with plastic. Unless Greenes comes up with a system to improve the wear on this product, I do not recommend it. Greenes is trying to work with us to remedy our complaint and concerns.

However, I'm in the third year, and a few of the end posts are splitting, and no longer hold the dovetailed boards in place. It could have been avoided if they had used thicker posts and didn't have the dove tail grooves on each face, as that weakens the posts (the cracks propagated from the dovetail grooves). Although it is OK for a beginner garden (given its low cost) , I wouldn't recommend it if you want something that lasts more that a few years. I'm now looking for a more sturdy (and expensive) design to replace this. It was fun while it lasted.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall definitely good value, but a caveats for the price Simple points since there are multiple reviews already: 1. To buy cedar and have it cut and dovetailed would be more expensive than this was. 2. The dovetailing is worth its weight in gold! 3. Some reviewers said the boards are "rough" some are/some aren't. 25-45 min of sanding should give you perfect boards (note I only had 2 + all the caps i thought were "rough") 4. The boards are untreated, so I treated them to help resist water and give them a more aesthetic look 5. Personal Note: About 8 of the boards in my set were warped fairly badly. one of the 8 was also too short by almost 1/2 inch. They also arrived wet...in a dry box. - I was able to steam press them back somewhat...but it was annoying, but it still turned out looking good. 6. Wear gloves. you don't want splinters! That is all. It's a great product I love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The garden box is easy to assemble and perfect for a small garden. My students love to garden and we found the perfect solution to growing a garden on top of an asphalt slab. The Home Depot garden box has two compartments to plant vegetables and flowers. It has a nice decor with the two slats of boards which easily slids into place to assemble. I had parents who volunteered to help build it, but I could have assembled it alone. This box would be great for an small patio or yard. It is a good price for what you get and I hope to purchase more of these boxes for my classroom and fellow teacher so more children can participate in gardening to learn about plants and what they need to grow. Many of the children do not have access to gardening at home so the garden box provide this opportunity for them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This raised bed is very easy to assemble. Even the caps that fit on top of the posts are predrilled. When I opened the package, I found no directions and almost paniced. I didn't take me long to figure out that all I had to do was slide the boards into the posts. I used a hammer wrapped with a towel on a couple of boards. It went together quickly. I thought I might need a drill, but found the caps to be predrilled. So, I only needed a screwdriver to complete the job. I was planting vegetables in a square foot arrangement, so I put stakes around the perimeter to which I attached the string to divide it into square feet.. I did not want to take a chance of splitting my beautiful cedar. I don't think it detracted too much from the looks of the cedar.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good customer service I recently order 4 raised beds. There was a problem with some the boards being warped, some really warped. This was a fixable situation in that it required some new boards. I got in contact with Greenes Fencing through Home Depot. Their customer service promptly corrected the problem and I had my replacement boards in 5 days. Really impressed with their customer service department.

Wood screws were missing, thankfully I had plenty already. Unit went together with no problem, all pieces fit properly, and the materials are of good quality. I will probably buy again to expand our garden. Recommended.
