Q:What is recommended length screw for ceiling drywall

      Answer This Question

A:  That depends on the thickness of the drywall you are putting up. I would suggest 3/4” screw length in the ceiling joist. So if you’re putting up 1/2” drywall then you should use 1 1/4” drywall screws.

A:  1-1/4 inch is fine for 1/2 inch drywall in conjunction with a good construction adhesive and space the screws 8 to 10 inches apart along the joists. 5/8 inch drywall, required in garage ceilings with living space above should have 1-5/8 inch screws along with good construction adhesive.

A:  1-1/4” is recommended at least. You can do 1-1/2” too. Longer screws are good for ceilings. These 1” screws are good if you are putting drywall onto 3/4” furring strips and have concrete on the other side. A longer screw would hit the concrete

I was working on a project building shelves out of pallets. I bought some brackets but all the screws I had were either too long or too short to attach the wood to them. I specifically needed 1" screws and HD was the only place that had them readily available. They're strong too. They're perfect for projects involving thin pallet planks. Just make sure you pre drill.

          Not as advertised
In the specifications it says: "Included Driver Bit". To me that means that there is a driver bit included in the box but there is not. I really don't like Phillips drives because the driver doesn't stay in as well as square drive and star drive. I figured that if the bit is included maybe it would fit well enough that I can drive these screws in but now I find there is no bit included. I would much prefer to have one of the other kind of drives but Home Depot only sells Phillips drive drywall screws, unlike one of their major competitors.

These are very handy to have in the shop. They are drywall screws so use them accordingly. I was building stage props so not a lot of stress on the fasteners.

Used for securing cement board to furring strips
My house has cinder block walls with all dryall on furring strips. I used these screws to secure 1/2" thick cement board to 1/2" thick furring strips. Worked out great.

I use these for a variety of projects. They drive easily and hold well. I wouldn't use the 1" to hang drywall but they work well for minor projects like making propls for a stage production.
