Product Overview

Grip-Rite drywall screws are used when installing gypsum board to wood studs. They have a sharp point to pierce through drywall, and a coarse thread design to help grab into wood studs. Once the screw has been driven, the bugle head allows for quick and easy countersinking.
  • California residents
  • Made of steel construction
  • Phosphate coated to make driving easier, and to provide a good base for finishes such as paint
  • Bugle Philips head driven
  • Made to conform to ASTM C1002

How many for 30 pieces of sheet rock?

Asked by Kimberly September 27, 2017

Kimberly, If I understand your question correctly, you’re asking how many screws need to be put into a 4’ x 8’ Sheet of Drywall (SheetRock). Well, most codes state that SheetRock should be fastened every 8” along each edge and at 16” intervals. So this would give us 5 Rows spaced 16” apart. Each row is 96” long. With 1 Screw within 3/4” at each end, that would be 13 Screws per row. With 5 rows, that would be 65 Screws per sheet. Some jurisdictions or local codes state that when installing SheetRock (DryWall) overhead (Ceiling), it should be double screwed every 8”. This would Double the amount of screws needed to 130 per sheet. When screwing into wood studs or ceiling joists, use Coarse Thread Screws. I don’t see that you would need 3” Screws, 1 5/8” to 2 1/2” Screws might be easier and more economical. Also, if installing Drywall (SheetRock) overhead (Ceiling), most local Building Codes will require 5/8” Fire Rated DryWall (SheetRock). I hope this helps. Thank you. Sincerely, heatman5.

Yes, but they are overkill. 1 5/8” is sufficient to hold up 1/2” drywall. The screws should be no more than 12” apart. Recommend 8”

Cheap junk
Out of 829 screws I would say at least 30-40% break.

Drywall screws themselves are fantastic and exactly as advertised, each screw seems to be exact spec. The problem I had was the plastic sealed container inside perfectly sized outer box came broken on corner rendering the container useless and having to scrounge up a beefy container to dup out contents in.
