How many screws will it take to do 700 square foot of deck?

If you’re putting down Trex boards use hidden fasteners with the grooved boards. I only use these screws for perimeter boards where the hidden fasteners won’t work. So the answer to your question is not very many if you have a 12’x14’ deck. A one # box should be enough.

The written description says "Star-Drive", but the picture says quite clearly "Square Drive". Wh...

The ones I purchased had a star drive. I had to change bits after about 70 screws were driven. It may have been an error on my part but I'd have extras just in case.

Can these be used in pressure treated wood?

I see no reason why not. They are coated, and are designed for decking.

Can this screw be used to fasten a composite deck board to a red iron steel beam?

I would say no, don't believe they are designed for use in metal

Will they rust? I live on the Pacific Coast, after all.

These aren't metal, so they won't rust.

I think the 1 lb. box has 67 to 69 screws. The box label will say for sure, though it's not advertised online.

I used the product to assemble a 24 inch high garden box. A simple project, requiring almost no advanced skills, with the primary design feature being I want it to never, ever fall apart. This particular screw pulled the joints tight. Not a wobble, not a squeak, not a gap. I recommend getting a pack of T-20 driver bits, though. The provided driver bit is not as good as, oh, Milwaukee or DeWalt driver bits.

Product works really well. Probably better than the tan or black screws that I have spent extra cash on in the past. The thread change seemed weird to me at first, but if you think about how it works, it helps secure and strengthen each joint. These bad boys draw in tight but like any other wood screw, if you put too much torque on these they will start spinning. Love these and will use again for back deck.

These screws are pretty much a perfect match for my Trex Beach Dune composite deck boards. They are fairly sturdy, I had just one break off while installing fascia (see picture). I found the star driver bit that came with them to work alright for awhile but then I switched to my DeWalt star driver bit which was tougher and fit better. Its probably a good idea to have a solid T20 bit on hand, dont trust the one in the box. The screws drill out the composite material a little to ensure it isn't stressing the board too much. Most countersink well, others don't. I drove these 1" to 1.5" away from a board's edge with no issue. The thin threading towards the screw head ensures you can always reverse and drive the screw out if you miss a joist. I used an impact driver to install mine.

They worked fine, but the drive bit that was included rounded out long before the project was done. It was a good thing that I had my own bit that fit.
