Q:Can this bandsaw with a blade to cut metal cut thin metal?
by|Apr 13, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  We appreciate you reaching out to us with your inquiry. This bandsaw is specifically designed for woodworking tasks. Its speed is too high for metalworking applications, and even with a metal blade added, it can generate sparks.

          A good choice
Had been looking at various bandsaws. One week, all of Grizzlys' machinery was 10% off. Ordered on a Monday and received it 4 days later. Since I dont have anyone to help me lift, I chose to remove the top half of the saw from the bottom half ,while it was still in the box and set it aside. After lifting the lower half and motor, (weighs about 150 lbs), onto the stand and bolting it down, I had to figure how to place the top half on it and while balancing it, slide the 5/8" bolt into place and tighten it. I also was installing the riser kit at the same time. By inserting the bolt and washer upside down and wedging it in place with a piece of wood between the bolt head and saw frame, it was easy enough to place the top half on the riser block and tighten the nut, which was already in place, enough so that the saw was stable enough to remove my hands from it and focus on tightening the bolt. This required 2 , 15/16" open end combo wrenches. Tried using crescent wrenches, but its tight quarters. Before you mount the table to the saw, I'd suggest setting it up with your blade choice, for the ease of it and also, because the two bolts that hold the lower bracket post to the frame seemed to only be hand tight. This bracket is what the lower side and thrust bearings attach to. After the blade alignment and bearing adjustments are made, simply remove the blade and mount the table. Also , on the bottom of the top post, you'll notice a threaded hole that runs front to rear on the post. It is not misbored as I thought it was intended for the upper blade guide casting to attach to. It's simply there for the manufacturer of the post to put a bolt in there to hang it up during the powder coating operation. Overall, the saw runs great and is quiet. Another thing, is when I was attaching the saw to the base, instead of trying be a contortionist and placing a flat and lock washer and nut on the bottom of the bolt, I put the bolt and flat washer up from underneath the table, then stacked the washers and nut on top of the bolt. All in all, this is a good saw and worth the money.

This was purchased through Home Depot. It was delivered in timely fashion and packaged well. It was very easy to setup including the alignment and tension of stock blade that came with unit. I am new to bandsaw Owen ship and it also provided documentation to get started on your woodworking projects. My friend helped set the motor on top stand as this is a heavy beast around 175 lbs with no table top installed . He also said it’s well built compared to Delta bandsaw his had over 20 years.

Great saw for the money; needed a few tweaks
This is basically a modern version of the classic vintage cast iron 14-inch bandsaws that many woodworkers are familiar with. I thought about trying to find one of those locally, but I've never owned a bandsaw before and I value the warranty and excellent documentation that comes with a new saw. Also, local prices for used saws were not competitive with prices for new saws. I had to tweak a few things after setting up the saw. These were minor but I am mentioning them in case it might help anyone else. The first time I turned the saw on, it made a loud noise because the metal fan blades at the end of the motor were contacting the metal cover. There is some adjustment possible and the problem went away after a little tweaking. Also, the plastic blade guide on the left-hand side of the saw was making a lot of noise. The saw blade was rubbing on it. I found out that the on/off switch box was pressing on the side of the plastic guide. The switch box has some horizontal screw holes in it that allow for some lateral adjustment. I loosened them, moved the switch box to the left, and screwed it back down. Now the noise is gone. Finally, the front door on top of the saw would sometimes rattle against the metal housing that it closes onto. There is a little plastic thing on the inside of the door which fits into a clip to hold the door closed. I spaced it out by adding a few washers behind it, and that solved the problem. If you plan to put this on a mobile base, I highly recommend setting it up that way out of the box. Adding a base later can be a bit sketchy because the saw is very top heavy. It's much easier to take care of that before you fully assemble the saw. Overall I am very pleased with the saw. It has enough power for any woodworking operations I have tried, and it is a good value. Liftgate delivery service was much appreciated.

Your insights into the minor adjustments made after the setup are incredibly helpful for both us and potential customers. Your satisfaction is our priority, and we're grateful for your detailed review. Thank you for choosing our bandsaw, and we look forward to serving you in the future.
Assembly was smooth, I also bought a Grizzly 5/8 inch carbide resaw blade and am very impressed with the resaw performance up to the capacity of the saw.
