What does 5K mean for the foam gutter guard?
Thank you so much for the question. The 5K is an industry standard term that refers to 5" gutters that are normally used for residential. 6K is the larger 6" gutter used more frequently for commercial. I hope that helps!
Can these be used with de-icing cables in cold weather?
I know this is a late response. It all depends how warm the cables get. Urethane foam can withstand fairly high heat exposure, but if it is concentrated heat and left for extended periods of time, then I would not recommend it. Thank you!

how long do they last?
The gutter guard itself will not deteriorate. It will however fill with debris. I think we used ours over 5 years before replacing them.
This is a tough question to answer definitively. It is a great question though. So much depends on the geographical area you live in and the weather cycles. It is a true range. The expectation is that you would get at least 3 to 4 years for sure. We have heard of some users getting over 8 or 10 years. We simply can't guarantee that and we can't guarantee how all users have installed these.
How do these hold up to winter conditions like snow and ice?
I am on my second set of these covering about 8 years and I've never noticed a change caused by snow and ice. Maybe I'm just not observant enough.
Hey Gary, thank you so much for the question. These hold up just fine to snow and ice. They actually fill the gutter, so the weight of snow and ice do not adversely affect their usefulness. Ultimately, the snow and ice will melt through the foam and they will continue to work just as when installed.
Will this work on a 4" standard gutter as well?
You can trim down the front edge very easily with scissors. I did that on some of my gutters where the fit was a bit tight and the top of the guard would not be flat.

During winter, will snow and water build up in the mess creating a risk of excess weight and damage to the gutter. Or backing up under the surrounding roofing?
I honestly don't know, haven't been through winter yet. But the pine needles build up on top and have to be cleaned off, they don't blow away as I had hoped.
