Questions & Answers

Would the sponge hold the water and rot your wood
ByNov 1, 2025
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

Vickie, GutterFoam does not act like a sponge and absorb water. The water flows through the foam. It will not weigh down or rot any wood.

Will this work with heavy pine needles and pine pitch
                ByAug 14, 2023
                1 Answer |
                Answer This Question

Brian, Yes, GutterFoam works with pine needles. The pine needles will lay on top of the GutterFoam and then blow off with the wind. Occasional maintenance may be required, which would just involve brush or spraying off the foam to remove anything that does not blow off from the wind. All gutter guards need some maintenance, but GutterFoam is the easiest to maintain.

So far, one month in, very satisfied with GutterFoam. It was very easy to install and it does not stick up over the gutters for a clean look. I am holding back one star, as I am a bit skeptical that pine needles will not collect over the fall/winter. If it does as advertised, I will up date in the spring. Otherwise, it is a good, easy to install, economical way to keep gutters free of clutter.

                  Can't Live Without These
I've tried every time of gutter guard/protection I could get my hands on. But these are by far the easiest to install, use and they last! I love that the top part is covered so you aren't confused when you install them. The material lets the rain water fall right through filtering the leaves to fall or blow way off the top.

                    Not a long term solution
Install these gutter guards 2-3 years ago. As others have pointed out overtime, they begin to get clogged with debris and roof grit.. as the debris builds up plants begin to grow in the moist soil that’s trapped inside the foam. The phone becomes brittle overtime and the squirrels enjoy digging into the foam and tearing it up in places. On my roof that became growing factories. Yes they are cheap and easy to install, but in the long run it’s not gonna last very long. If you’re gonna be on the top of a 40 foot ladder or any length of time you might as well a micromesh system that is almost as easy or easier than putting in the foam I’ll be at significantly more expensive.

All gutter guards needs some maintenance. GutterFoam is the easiest gutter guard to maintain. A little maintenance of brushing or spraying off the foam as needed, will help it remove anything debris that has not blown off with the wind. Performing maintenance and removing debris will help prevent anything from growing in the gutters. TjmWW
The only thing I really don't like about the leaf Guard is, it rots after sorting in the gutter for a couple years. But it's the only guard for box Gutter.

Removed in less than a year
These might be good for JUST leaves. If you have pine needles ,seedlings, or small sticks in your area DO NOT use these. Everything sticks in these. Just removed 230' of these and was still wet ( hasn't rained for a week). Full of ants and other bugs as I feel these filters created a breeding ground. Also seems moldy and stnky. Huge waste of money!

Great to fill gaps in eaves
I was trying to come up with a humane way to get rid of the birds nesting in my outdoor patio eaves and this works great! Cut to size and place.

The product has a five year warranty. Some of the Gutter Foam that was installed a year ago on the south side of the home showed signs of deterioration. The tops were turning to dust. The company stood by their warranty and sent replacement sections, but they needed to see the receipt and photos of the damage. Regarding installation, the sections are light and easy to install. Cutting them is a snap when necessary. Water flow through the material is abundant. No more leaves clogging the gutters or downspouts.

                          I was fooled
I had the type of guards that snapped into the top of the gutters. They worked fairly well, but the wind kept blowing them out. When i saw these foam guards, I thought it was a good idea, but i was wrong. They fit tightly into the gutter and they keep leaves out of-the gutters, but the foam openings are to small to handle anything but light rain. When we get heavy rains the water just runs over the edge of the gutters defeating the purpose of the gutter

In a heavy rain, there might be some rain the bounces off due to the high water flow, but most should still be flowing through the GutterFoam. We have had reports of GutterFoam performing even in hurricane force weather. TjmWW

                            High Maintenance
I installed these in my home about 8 years ago. I have oak and maple around my house primarily. These were inexpensive and easy to install. A few things- these shrink over time. So at each joint there will be a gap eventually. They also collect organics in the sponge from dead leaves, the whirly things off the maple and the fuzzy stems from oak. This has lead to me having to hose out, every year, the filters. I did it only a few times on my upper stories. I also used “Moss Out” to stop the moss from growing on top. In the last rain storm, I noticed massive amounts of water overflowing in many of my gutters. These guards were clogged. Today I hired a gutter company to install a new product and remove these. I still recommend these as a good alternative. They just require some (high) maintenance to keep them working. It might be as high as cleaning out your gutter every year!

Hello, thank you for your feedback and I apologize for any issues that you had with GutterStuff! We are always improving our UV & Germicide coating and there should be no need for any type of anti-moss treatment. It looks like you ordered the Original model which is covered under warrantee for 5 years and you had your filters for close to 8 years. We do offer different levels of protection that offer longer warrantee coverage and are better-suited for different types of environments that might have more humidity or exposure. If you have any questions about these other options, please feel free to give us a call @ (414) 446-8778. TjmWW
