Q:It states that no further finishing is recommended, but can we still? For some reason, the pre-treated butcher blocks here are less expensive that those that are treated, but I want to stain and finish to my preference. Is that still something I can do?

Looks Good
Space needed for an area to eat. The butcher block was a nice addition. The picture shown has cabinets and the butcher block. More cabinet space so we added upper cabinets and the pantry cabinet. Instead of lower cabinets we used the butcher block for a counter.

Utility Room Counter
Beautiful. Perfect for over our washer and dryer. Difficult to cut with my circular saw but I was able to get some help from a friend with the right tools.

1st block has a giant crack town the middle. HD...
1st block has a giant crack town the middle. HD customer service was great, at least and sent replacement, but that ALSO had a crack (but much smaller), AND the bottom is all scuffed up! This crack was much smaller though so I just kept it, an left the scuffing on the bottom. Also all 4 corners were beat up on both.
Good news is desk looks great! But if I was putting it in a more public place or I was a professional installing this for a client, this would not have worked.
Bottom line: beautiful product, but packaging/shipping is significantly lacking.

Beautiful from a distance
Got one for an island and when my husband unwrapped it I was in love. Sadly when I got close, the UV finish had bubbles throughout the protective layer. In one square inch, there were dozens of bubbles. And they aren’t smooth or even bumpy. It’s like they popped after curing but left sharp little peaks and pits. Frustrating because we paid extra for the UV finish. Also, every single joint was raised. Being handy, we can and will have to sand it completely down, stain, and re-seal the counter.

Perfect for folding table on top front load washer and dryer.
Met my expectations based on product's description. Used the butcher block counter top on my front load washer and dryer for a folding table. No modifications needed. Just used area rug gripper pad between top of washer/dryer and counter. The pad is protecting the top of the appliances and stopping any sliding of the counter.
