      A:  Trim - You can always talk to someone at the Home Depot Pro Desk and see if they are willing to cut the butcher block down to size, but I think most store may not do it. It is quite easy for an experiences DIYer to cut it down to size. ~ Hardwood Reflections

            Weird lines after staining
            In my case, there were these lines that ran perpendicular to the grain that only showed up after staining. I had sanded to 220 only since the manufacturer says they sand to 150 grit. I recommend either redoing the 150 grit sand before progressing to 220, or using a flashlight at an angle to look for potential mill marks to prevent extra work on your end. Also depending on your butcher block, you may want wood filler. I personally stained with kona by varathane and I really loved the color!

              Nice when finished, but requires work to get there
              If you're looking for a butcher block top that you can take home, seal, and install in a day or two, look elsewhere. However, if you have the tools and ability to properly prep the wood, then it's a viable option. I was able to see obvious mill marks in the wood, so these are definitely not ready for stain. The underside had several large knot holes that needed filled with wood filler prior to sanding. When I began sanding, I discovered several spots where the surface was higher or lower than the overall surface. This required significantly more sanding to level out the top surface. Once finished, it looks great. However, it took a very long time to get it to that point.

                  Home Depot personnel should know better
                  Wanted to use this as countertop. Instructions said to treat within 48hrs of tearing down the plastic. Went into the store & found that every single piece of butcher block they had in stock was almost completely unwrapped=over 48 hrs had already passed of the plastic being torn down & it hadn’t been treated. Their personnel convinced me it didn’t matter so I bought it because they had limited stock & was afraid they would run out. Called customer service the next day & they weren’t helpful.

                    Turned out perfect
                    The butcher block was in great condition out of the package and very high quality for the price. I used it for an L-shaped desk and cut off a 20" portion that was connected on the side via dominos. Sanded it down with 120-220 grit sandpaper and finished with Rubio Monocoat Pure on both sides. The final product looks beautiful and I couldn't be happier with the purchase. Definitely recommend!

                      Oiled butcher block countertops
                      Used this butcher block in our new kitchen. Cut and oiled directly out of the packaging. We used Milk Paint brand half and half tung oil (half pure tung oil, half food safe citrus solvent) which is a hardening oil. Installed after oiling and curing. They are holding up well and are easily wipeable with this finish. They feel is a bit rough but as expected. For the price these countertops are good so far!
