The tape you use will not hold the plastic up. First you need to staple the plastic to the underside of the floor joists and the rim joists. The tape (duct tape) is used to seal seams that overlap and seal places where you’ve stapled.

This would be very slippery and potentially a tripping hazerd. There is lightly adhesive backed plastic that can be on carpet temporarily, or there is heavy paper that can be taped down. I’m not sure how practical it is to try to cover floors when you’re moving in. How will you remove it once all your furniture is placed?
