A: as with any kind of hardwood or solid (woven) bamboo product, this can be painted as well. the finish provides no obstacle to obscuring how much money you spent on the material, but why not buy cheap pine if the goal is to hide it ?

A: the pieces we received were finished, which would preclude any kind of dyeing or staining without first completely stripping the material in preperation for applying a colorant

Most looked good. Read rest of review of install tips. Many pieces were joined, so the shade/pattern was not continuous across the entire length. Not too bad though. The quality is pretty good. Very durable and stiff. I destroyed a few trying to nail them with a pneumatic nailer. The 18 gauge nails would not go in. It turns out, when I switched from Hitachi nails to DeWalt nails, they went in great. Make sure you use better quality nails for these. Also, since they are so stiff, if your wall or baseboard is not perfectly straight, I found that it helped to notch the back side every inch or so to make then as flexible as similar 3/4 oak or PVC quarter round.

Excellent product, but harder than rock! Trying to use finish nail gun damaged several pieces and destroyed numerous nails. Ended up having to buy additional pieces because of damage. Had to drill a nail hole and manually nail them in several cases. Once sanded, damaged holes filled, and painted they turned out great. 3 .5 stars rounded up.
