Q:What is the best type of glue for gluing tack strip to concrete?

      Answer This Question

A:  You do not need to glue these. They come with nails that you nail into the concrete. After they are nailed into the concrete the tacks face upward to grab onto the carpet.

A:  PL Premium Construction Adhesive (you'll have to wait for it to dry before installing carpet)

        by|Nov 2, 2023

A:  Unless the concrete is SMOOTH and not damp or dusty, you're better off drilling 1/8 in. holes and driving 5/8 in. - 7/8 in aluminum anchors. (in essence, soft aluminum nails). Steel concrete nails will chunk off the edges of a concrete slab.

          by|Dec 9, 2023

A:  Hammer in preinstalled nails to subfloor. A minimum of two (2) nails must be used to secure each section of tack strip to the floor. The tack strip may be glued to certain types of flooring when nails are not an option, such as with radiant heated floors or drainage systems. Tack strip nails cannot be driven into conduit or tubing. Contact Cement, epoxy or construction grade adhesive. You may also want to consider, Roberts 20-1450 Smooth Edge Tack Strip is a peel and stick tack strip that grips instantly and allows for immediate stretching. Designed to make carpet installation easy and can withstand standard power stretching. Use by peeling off adhesive backing, point pins towards the wall and stick to the sub floor approximately 1/4 in. from the wall, stretch carpet as usual.

A:  I am unsure about that but if not I am sure that you could spray them and achieve the same effect.

purchased for a job (not for personal use) I was helping out on for metro carpet and flooring in located near warren and inkster. I think it worked fine? The carpet seemed to be sticking to it... the nails going up are a bit long and sharp.... stepping on them later carrying something heavy without shoes on could lead to punctured skin on smaller sized feet... at 130 standing on them with carpet installed on top it was not very comfortable... I think the nails pointed upwards should be shorter... or we got the wrong tack strips for the depth of carpet that was being installed... it might never be an issue for home dwellers if they never step on the edge of the carpet next to the wall without some kind of protective footware but also in a carpets lifetime that is probably going to happen at least once...

Don’t make the mistake I did. The strips are good quality except they WILL NOT go into concrete. Get yourself a bag of 5/8 concrete nails $5. Don’t leave the store without it. It will save you the headache of going back. The nails that come with the strips won’t do anything, but break up your concrete floor.
