Q:Do these carpet iron nails resist corrosion in a humid environment for example when installing a carpet over a concrete floor in a basement? please see photo below.

      Answer This Question

A:  For best results in this environment: Industry Standard: Aluminum carpet strips are recommended for carpet installations where water/ moisture may cause damage to wooden tack strip.

      by|Jan 21, 2022

A:  They do a reasonable job. It’s hard to find anything that won’t eventually corrode a bit (even stainless steel). These are the industry standard for carpet over concrete. You do need a vapor barrier subfloor and carpet pad or at least a vapor barrier carpet pad.

Easy to use. Inexpensive. Doing 3 bedrooms with these. Had to swap out the nails for bigger concrete pins since used on a slab. Started putting in the carpet on top of it already and had no problems.

I found another use for these in my vegetable garden. A rabbit had been doing a number on my lettuce. I tried the plastic forks but it did not stop them. I bought a package of these and laid them out on the perimeter and it did the trick. Watched a rabbit approach but not touch the lettuce.

The nails were too short and not enough tacks to grab the carpet.

Thank you for your feedback. Flooring must be clean and free of debris. For all types of tackstrip, and depending upon the substrate, it may be necessary to install additional nails to be able to hold a carpet stretch.

A box of 100 at 37 cents apiece was opened and half empty. I was charged $3.70 for 3 ( notice the markup of 37 cents to $1.00 for each one because I just bought 3 ). The box was already opened and half empty. No wrapped three pack available, although that was how it was charged. A ripoff because the box was open and half empty? What do you think?

I just wish the nails were spread out more consistently and didn’t have large gaps
