Product Overview

The H7ICAT is an Air-Tite ceiling housing designed for new construction installations where the housing will be in direct contact with ceiling insulation. The Air-Tite housing prevents airflow between the attic and living areas. The built in integral thermal protector provides positive protection against over lamping. This housing also features an adjustable socket bracket to assure proper and consistent lamp positioning. Pre-installed and captive bar hangers on the housing can be positioned to any point within a 24 in. joist space. These bar hangers also fit onto T-Bars for easy installation into drop ceilings. UL approved and CSA certified, the H7ICAT with its ease of installation makes a great addition to any home.
  • New construction recessed can, ideal for those who have easy access to their ceilings
  • Insulation contact rated: Designed for insulated ceilings where contact is necessary
  • Air-Tite rated design meets restricted air flow code requirements which prevents airflow between attic and living areas and saves on both heating and air conditioning costs
  • Compatible with a wide variety of 6 in. Recessed light trims but is best with Halo 426, 420, 353, 310, 301, 172, 78, 71, 70, and 30 series models
  • Compatible with a wide variety of 6 inch LED retrofit trims but is best with Halo quality RL, RA, SLD, LT, SMD, and ML series models (Bulb free with some having a 45 year LED lifespan)
  • q-Channel bars with Pass-N-Thru feature allows bars to cross-over for tool-less shortening in tight spaces less than 12" without removing from the plaster frame
  • Got-Nail: Pre-installed nail easily installs in regular lumber, engineered lumber and laminated beams
  • Slide-N-Side Junction Box: connectors allow non-metallic sheathed cable for both U.S. and Canada to be installed without tools
  • Three "Quick Connect" connectors eliminate the need for separate wire nuts - simply strip supply wires and push in
  • Features an integral thermal protector to guard against misuse of insulation materials and improper lamping

6 inch cans are so common and can accommodate so many lighting options. These cat fixtures are the most versitile with many mounting options and adjustability. Also the wire connections are very convenient and well thought out. At less then $10 a fixture for the 6 packs they are very affordable.

Great product at a good price! This is what all contractors should use in insulated areas, pays for itself many times over! Without it you end up with HUGE cold spots, and hot spots in summer, in your ceiling! (see photo)

Easy to install, great connections and well made unit. Bulbs are somewhat pricey but cool to the touch and should last a long time. I also like the look. I had never installed recessed fixtures before and found them easy to install. I have had these fixtures about 3 months.

I bought this 6-pack case in October 2016. I'm a DIYer and purchased these to use during a pretty extensive bathroom renovation, installed in an attic above the master batch. While I've had experience with recessed lights in the past, these are particularly great and simple to use. The quick connect electrical connections were particularly awesome (I uploaded a picture showing it as it comes with the product). Simply snap the wire connections into place and BAM, onto the next one. I definitely prefer these connections to having to use wire nuts, which I often have to do with other fixtures because they come with just filament wire to connect to your load wires. The junction box attached to the housing has two punchouts on either side and three on top, which gives you plenty of options for running wiring. I happened to be running 12-gauge wire in my project, and they were plenty wide to accommodate. Since this housing was being put into my attic, I needed it to be IC-rated to enable it to directly touch insulation, and this fit the bill nicely. They're also "air-tite," which I believe just refers to the small foam seal that surrounds the light opening to stop air movement between non-insulated spaces and your living space (yay for energy efficiency!). Also, according to specifications, the light is suitable for use in damp locations, such as over showers or in your bathroom, but that's also largely dependent upon what kind of light fixture you install into the housing. I installed these on a 20-amp circuit using 12-gauge wire and a dimmer switch. The dimmer operates them perfectly. Installation is pretty straightforward--cut a circle in your drywall slightly larger then the opening of the light, then stretch out the bar hangers flush with your joists and nail them into place. I encountered some issue with the nails supplied in the bar hangers where a lot of them would bend (I swear I know how to use a hammer properly!), but they still sit in place just fine and there are other pre-made holes in the bar hangers that you could use other nails/screws if you're worried about it. All-in-all, I consider this a definitive buy. IC-rating, air-tight housing, and easy installation is the name of the game. A word of caution if you're remodeling, however, is to check how much space you have to install them in before buying (they take up quite a bit of space).

Easy to install right out of the box
With these recessed lighting fixtures, it was easy to adjust with-in the bracket to line up all the lights in 2 directions.

Fairly easy to install. VERY easy to wire
If you are finishing a room, which we were doing, these recessed can lights are a great option. They are not as easy to install as I would like. They come with nails ready to go, but I found that I often could not get the nails in easily. I ended up using the optional screw holes to secure the lights. Of course, you have to do this one handed because one hand is holding up the light while the other is securing the feet to a joist. If you are installing more than one and need them to line up, you have to be decent with math and be able to measure. These can shift back and forth on the legs in one direction, so you'll need to ensure that they are lined up in the OTHER direction before securing them. By far, the easiest part is wiring them. You merely pop off the cover, and you are presented with the three leads: hot, neutral, and ground. You merely strip about 1/4" or so of wire and push the the wire in. You'll "feel" that it's secured. There is room for up to three connections, so you can run the line in from the power source and then feed two other fixtures from that point. There are even grommets to allow the wires to safely enter the wiring box. That aspect is very well thought out and why I prefer these recessed lights to others.

      Good Can 6in
It is a very high quality can compared to the CE one they have right next to it in the store. IC and Air tight. I wish the nails were a little better quality as they bend easily when hammering it but that cold be user error.
