Hello. I'm from Eden Prairie, MN. My first question is do I need a city permit to set this up in my backyard by myself? Secondly, does this work as an all-season structure?

You would have to contact your city for that information.

            Answer This Question

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this as it changes the make of the gazebo and that voids the warranty.

              Great Buy on sale
I was able to purchase this Gazebo on sale for about half the normal price and get a discount for opening a home depot credit card along with other items. The build took about 6-7 hrs with the help of 2 friends. Instructions was fairly easy I only got confused maybe twice but it was just in the way the piece should go since I was building up and putting onto the roof. All in all good build and I was only missing one curve piece that connects the leg to the across bar of the roof.

Nice Gazebo. Once you work out the install quirks it is good to put together. I suggest having help!
The "Hampton Bay" 10 ft. x 12 ft. Aluminum Chelsea Point Gazebo, was more than I expected. It was tough to build(by myself). The main issues were; the holes lining up, a bunch of missing parts, and hardware bolts snapping half-way thru. Once I figured out the pattern it came together ok. Hampton Bay sent me a whole new kit and now its done. I've had it in heavy storms winds and rain with no issues, and its not even secured to the ground! A couple tiny leaks where the bolts had to be fudged but other than that it is nice. Heavy, sturdy and perfect coverage.

                great addition to the backyard
10 ft. x 12 ft. Aluminum Chelsea Point Gazebo is really a nice upgrade for your backyard. The gazebo is delivered in a metal framed cardboard box that weight 525+ pounds. My gazebo was delivered by a straight truck. Since the box is so heavy I would have the delivery company unload it into the back of a pickup or onto a trailer. It is about impossible to move crated otherwise. When the trucking company delivered my box the drive first told me to refuse it because there was damage. I didn’t refuse it and once I opened the box I realized the damage was to the metal frame of the box not to the gazebo itself. All the pieces are wrapped in plastic so I found very few blemishes. I assembled the gazebo by myself and it took me about 8 hours. It isn’t recommend to assemble this when it is windy out. The parts aren’t real heavy but some of them can be caught by wind during assembly. The hardware kit comes with two Allen wrenches to tighten the cap screws. I used my cordless drill at first but realized the cap screws were on the soft side so it would be easy to strip them out. If you use a cordless drill turn it down to the lowest torque setting. I have to say that this gazebo is engineered really well. I figured I would need a punt to line up some of the cap screws but I never used it. A ¼ inch ratchet is a helpful tool to speed up the assembly process. The roof sheets and brackets are steel but the frame pieces are aluminum so this will last years and years out in the weather. If this fits your backyard space it is a really nice addition to make your backyard more enjoyable.

Really a nice-looking gazebo, fun challenge to build.
The Hampton Bay Chelsea Point gazebo is very nice looking. The four peaks are different and offer excellent flow of hot air out of the gazebo. The materials are aluminum with a wood like painted effect. Our trim inside and outside is aged bronze the gazebo matches well. Although the web page says 10 x 12, mine is almost 12 x 12 when measure from roof edge to roof edge. When measuring from leg to leg inside, its about 11 x 11. I decided to do a self DIY to assemble the gazebo. It was a good challenge. If you liked putting models together as a youngster or you just like building things, you will enjoy this assemble. I made three videos, the second on the overall results, one on the detailed assembly and the last how to move a gazebo across the yard. Yes, I did accomplish that feat. The first video has links to the others. We will have many years of comfort under this gazebo as I don’t see it wearing out. On the assembly, I was able to do it alone except for lifting the final legs and tightening the underside roof nuts. It took me about six hours. It would take two people 2 – 3 hours maybe, especially after watching the assembly video. The instructions are okay, but the pictures small and I could not find an online pdf. So I had to figure out, for example, which way a piece oriented. I started by using a drill to tighten the hex head bolts. That worked fine as I found the included allen wrench was too small. However, for the large roof sheets and DD bolts, I highly recommend using a mechanically advantaged allen wrench ratchet. I stripped out a few DD bolts. Fortunately, a quick call to Hampton Bay support and they readily sent the replacement bolts to me. Support was quick and friendly. I did make a few scratches, something that could be avoided with more people. I will touch them up with some aluminum friendly paint after pollen season. I look forward to many sitting days, crawfish boils, smoked briskets and shade times with this gazebo. Did I mention I can drag this around the yard? Check out the other video too. Because I had to figure out the details not visible in the pictures, and several bolts stripped out because the holes were not aligned easily in one piece, I gave it a four. If I had the experience I have now, it would be a five star. Overall nice product from Hampton Bay.

                Nice Addition to Our Backyard
The 10 x 12 Hampton Bay Chelsea gazebo is a very nice aluminum gazebo. It should be nice to have a shaded area in the yard and not have to worry about a bit of rain to spoil outdoor plans. It is important to carefully plan where you are going to install the gazebo and how you are going to anchor it to the ground. If you are installing it on a deck, it can be screwed (or possibly strapped) onto the deck. If you have a concrete pad, it can also be screwed to the pad with special fasteners. However, if you want to install the gazebo on grass or on a patio laid in stone dust, you may have to pour concrete footings to anchor the posts. Since we are installing our gazebo on a patio and we don't want to tear up part of the patio to pour concrete footings, we have decided to place the posts in two-foot tall planter pots and then fill the pots with stones to anchor the gazebo. Because of the size and height of the gazebo, we will have to get help from friends to put it together. As you can see in one of our pics, there are a lot of parts to assemble. Also, please note that the gazebo does not cover a 10-foot by 12-foot rectangle. The roof of the gazebo covers a 12-foot square, and the outside post spacing is 128 inches. I don't know why the Home Depot website calls it a "10 ft. x 12 ft." gazebo. It will take some work, but we think this gazebo will be a great addition to our backyard. Although you can't tell from the online images the finish on the posts and other parts has a wood grain look (see one of our pictures).

Hampton Bay 10 ft. x 12 ft. Aluminum Chelsea Point Gazebo
Overall this a beautiful Gazebo. The aluminum structure makes this gazebo sturdy and well made. This is however not a regular DIYer project. The DIYer needs to have some advanced skills. The gazebo needs more than eight 6" stakes to mount it to the ground. It's recommended concrete forms are made first. The screws were allen heads and easy to strip out. The instructions were not clear when putting the roof up. The panels had to be loosened to get the gutter trim installed. The gaps were tight and and some screws had to be loosened to get another part together. Recommendation is to have a professional to put it together for the first time DIYer.

                Time for outdoor fun soon
We previously had a canvas topped gazebo that was nice, but did not handle the harsh outdoor elements very well. We decided to go with a new gazebo that did not have a canvas top or sides for more durability and longevity. After reviewing some online reviews and researching our options we selected this gazebo. It looks great, was reviewed as sturdy and also as reasonably easy to assemble. At 500+ pounds in the box I’m confident it will hold up well and withstand the elements. As you can see from my photos I had to tarp the box and it’s now early April and we are just now starting to get relief from the snow and temperatures in the 30-50 degree range. As soon it’s warmer and the ground is more secure and stable and not muddy I look forward to assembling and enjoying our new gazebo.

                Outdoor Entertaining Time
The Hampton Bay Chelsea Point is replacing a fabric covered gazebo that was installed around 2008 and have had to replace the fabric cover two times and it is due to be replaced again for the third time. It is much easier to have two people assisting one another when putting this together but it can be done with one person if you have multiple ladders to hold up sections to be fastened together. I suggest not tightening the roof braces completely so you have wiggle room to line all of them up for a good fit. Everything is packed extremely well in a metal cage within the cardboard box and depending on where you are installing the gazebo you may need to walk the pieces to your build site. The box itself weighs 529 pounds and is impossible to move once delivered so make sure it is placed where you need it. The roof and support braces are made of durable steel while the rest is aluminum all with a high quality finish. I can easily see enjoying this Hampton Bay Chelsea Point Gazebo for many years while blocking the hot sun. Perfect timing with the summer right around the corner and in my opinion it is a good investment. Made in China with 3 Year Limited Warranty

Hampton Bay 10X12 Chelsea Point Gazebo
I ordered this particular item to add some pizazz and charm to my backyard space. It comes to all in one box and weighs a little over 500 lbs. If you like assembling things this is the Gazebo you want, there are a lot of parts to put together. It took me and a son-in-law three days to assemble. I started a slab of concrete to place the Gazebo on and haven’t finished it yet ( hand mixing) I recommend a level place to start assembly the instructions are clear I would recommend when you get to the roof part to leave bolts a little loose to accommodate assembly then tighten when each part of roof is in place. If you have at least one helper the whole process goes easier. It’s a good looking Gazebo when finished

                Quite a structure...
It's going to be a while before I put this up, but I took a real good look at the manual before I ordered it. You're definitely going to need an extra pair of hands, but it doesn't look like it will be too hard on them. Lots of screws. Assembly instructions are laid out in a very efficient manner, to avoid having to ever get up on the roof. It looks like everything can be done from a 6 ft or 8 ft ladder. The box this thing came in was very heavy, shipping label says over 500 lbs, so I'll be moving it pieces at a time to the area I want to assemble it. Really nice looking structure, made of solid, long-lasting materials. I'm looking forward to many years of enjoyment from it.
