Deck mounting hardware?

Deck mounting hardware?
Asked by: billybob
Hi Billy, Actually, the gazebo already comes with stakes where you can anchor the unit to the ground. If you're referring to securing the gazebo on solid foundations, such as patio concrete or wood, Sunjoy recommends you secure it with the appropriate anchors. While these types of anchors are not supplied with the product, they can be easily purchased at your local hardware or home store. Should you have any other questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to call our customer service at 1-866-578-6569 or visit us at www.sunjoyonline.com. We are open 24/7. Thank you.

Immediately, you can tell the quality of the materials. The four legs have an attractive foot that's welded onto the upright. The four legs connect, not by just pushing together, but they have grooves where they screw together. All the supports are welded and sturdy. I was particularly impressed by the design of the center connector for the canopy. I would call the horizontal bars a double support design. The material is quality as well. I would almost describe the canopy and curtains as tent-like material. The mosquito netting is not flimsy, but substantial. This is my second gazebo. The first was more of a click together design. I enjoyed several years of use, but this will far outlast that one. I also expect easier assembly in the spring after our snow is gone. It's not an economy model, but definitely a big step up in quality and well worth the extra money.

I like that it has a mosquito net. And that the legs have the perfect sized holes for me to secure them down to my deck with lag bolts. I wish this was made with better quality thicker materials so that I could leave it as a 3 season installation. It really does add so much usability to my otherwise sun soaked deck. The framing is made of a very thin metal. I have this installed on my back 2 story deck and every time the wind picks up, I hear the metal frame groaning from inside my house. The fabric is thin as well. One decent gust of wind and this gazebo is going to be destroyed! So I’m bummed I have to take this down with any chance of wind. I would recommend this for temporary installations only. Some of the steps in the installation instructions weren’t very clear to me and I ended up having to redo those steps. I took pictures after I fixed it to maybe keep somebody from repeating my mistakes.

I recommend 4 people because its a little unstable as you begin to put it together and you assemble the top half first then have to lift it up on to the legs. For the price its not bad so far, I am concerned a little about how much wind it can withstand and stay in one piece. It has survived wind gusts up to 25 mph so far since I assembled it (I attached the gazebo to my deck with 8 #10 2-1/2 wood screws and 7 mm washers). I probably will take the canopy off when thunderstorms are anticipated and secure the frame to make sure it stays together.

It is in an area with little wind and no stress. The canopy is now coming apart, as the fabric is now paper-thin and spontaneously disintegrating all over, not just at stress points. The mosquito netting lasted about 3 months before it began to break down. It just basically turned into spiderweb and fell apart. The metal poles and parts have held up so far: I took the precaution of clearcoating the metal poles, so they are still OK. Looked great for the first few months, but poor quality materials have made it useless. I contacted the company, SunJoy, to buy a replacement canopy, but they no longer make it, so I am out of luck. Buyer beware.

It was assembled that month, and exposed to normal mid-Atlantic (Virginia) weather until October 2017, at which time we removed the fabric canopy to avoid unnecessary exposure to weather during cooler months. The canopy was then re-deployed from June through October 2018. By October 2018, after no more than 8 months of summer/fall exposure to the sun, the fabric canopy was beginning to develop small tears. It was again removed for storage during the cooler months. Upon attempting to re-deploy the fabric canopy for the 2019 warm season, when stretching the sewn-in pockets over the roof structure these small tears became large. The fabric canopy (and thus the entire gazebo) is now useless. Although the frame of this product has held up ok, the advanced deterioration of the fabric canopy after only 8 total months of exposure is unsatisfactory. I would strongly recommend spending 2 to 3 times more to buy a gazebo with a hard roof...one that will hopefully last years rather than months.

The gazebo itself is lovely however if you get any wind in your area at all it’s a big problem! The gazebo comes with stakes to anchor the unit which we used. The first heavy wind pulled them right out of the ground and moved the whole thing. We went back to Home Depot which sold us drill bits, anchors and screws to secure the side posts to our cement patio. The next wind storm bent the entire frame, snapped the top supports which ended up piercing the canvas canopy and sliced a huge hole in the top. The whole thing lasted less than 3 months until the weather destroyed it. I loved it when the weather was good but if you have any wind in your area, save your money.

I had the 2018 version and it turned into a balloon with some strong winds & flew away last month. I got this model year's on sale - and right off the bat was concerned. They made the shipping box smaller, which caused the legs to now have to be assembled (insert more areas for water and rust). They ditched the nuts/washers/bolts idea for thumb screws - which is fine, except since the box was smaller, there were now more pieces to assemble. Be warned, look at part "H" when you get it - it's the connector for the arms that hold for the small canopy at the top. Mine was formed in to an X and not a + , therefore it didn't follow the seams of the canopy and was unable to attach to the pockets - which is easier to do when on the ground and lift it up, than have to climb up way high and do assembly up on a ladder. Now, I'm waiting 7-10 business days for a replacement part and have a gazebo frame up, but we can't finish building. So, the quality went down from 2018 -> 2019 and the parts have a number of awful welds. Good luck.

The quality of the fabric is ok, but the stitching is not in the critical areas. When you have to finally stretch the top cover onto the frame work, the threads started tearing out. I was hoping to get 2 seasons out of this, but I am certain once I take it down in the fall it will be junk. The sun will take its toll on the fabric. I actually bought 2 of these and have only put up one as of last night. Tonight I will put up the other one and see how it goes. You do need extra people as the frame working not very rigid and flops all over the place until you get it all locked together. I am a Millwright by profession so I can usually deal with any short comings of product design. You pay for what you get, but its ultimately the wife that needs to be happy in the end. If you are looking to have something for the summer and junk it after the years over, than this is an item for you. I live in northeast Pa so it's not a full year round item for us obviously.
