Can a heating element be added to my exhaust fan?
ByDec 11, 2024

Answer This Question

No, a heating element cannot be added to this exhaust fan. It is designed solely for ventilation and does not have the capacity or safety features to support a heating element. Adding a heating element would void the warranty and could create a fire hazard.

THE DIMENSIONS IN THE LISTING PHOTO ARE WRONG!
The dimensions in the listing photo very clearly show the side with the exhaust port as being the 7.25" (shorter ) side. ITS NOT! The exhaust port side is 7.5". The opposite dimension is 7.25". So if your existing hole matches the size shown in the listing photo, be prepared to be disappointed because the photo is wrong. For what you're charging for this fan you'd think you could at least figure out how to use a tape measure.

Unit didn't last 2 months The Crappy Kehong 10uf 400v 105c capacitor at EC1 blew up. I replaced the cap with a Cornell Dubilier 10uf 350v 105C. NOTE: 350v replacement cap is fine for my use case do to the line voltage being 120v.

        Failed in 3 years
After squeals and the fan not turning on i removed the blower to find out had corroded and failed within 3 years of installation. These come with a one year warranty for a reason. Never again.

          Very quiet, easy retrofit
I replaced the basic, loud fan in our master bath. Since the fan is mounted in the attic space and has blown insulation above it, I opted to install from attic to avoid the mess of insulation falling down when the old housing was removed. (Old housing couldn’t be reused as I had hoped.) The fan makes a very low ticking sound as it ramps to speed and is then virtually silent. The new cover is much larger than the old. Seeing drywall under the edges looks a bit odd.

              Wall mounted fan is quiet
Wall mounted this fan and it is quiet. Installing was pretty easy. This was a new install so venting to exterior wall of home added time but not very difficult for this novice.

              Can barely hear it running!
Our old fan sounded like a lawn mower running..so loud I could not tolerate it being on for more than a minute or two. Drove me crazy! My husband is very hard of hearing so it never bothered him to leave the fan running. I (and overnight guests) could even hear it on the floor above and below it was so loud. Tried all of the tips to clean it etc without success...actually made it worse. I was shopping HD yesterday and on a whim picked up this Hampton Bay fan (I had returned two others already due to issues with the install space...one too tall and one was for new construction). We needed a shorter/more shallow fan because a PVC plumbing vent pipe runs across the top making install in the existing opening tricky. So pleased! This Hampton Bay fan is AMAZINGLY quiet. Can barely hear it running! Did have to slightly enlarge my old opening (even though it matched the dimensions of the old fan) in order to maneuver it up and under the vent pipe. Loved the quick connect electrical. Took me a couple of hours just due to the parameters I had to work with but extremely satisfied with the end result (and the inexpensive price to maintain my sanity)! I had to install trim because pulling out the old fan damaged the ceiling (added to my install time) but cool with that :-)

This energy star exhaust fan has a lot of decent features. 140 CFM, wet rated, humidity sensing option (which is easy to just turn off at the switch,) ease of installation with really no special tools required and a quiet motor. The installation/instruction booklet is easy to read with clear diagrams and inventory list. No crumbly styrofoam, just a few plastic bags and cardboard egg crate material for packaging. The cover grate is plastic with a clean and simple appearance that can go with any decor stye. We plan to replace an older fan in the family bathroom that's just not strong and effective enough at 80 CFM. Looking forward to a quieter exhaust fan too.
