Answer This Question

A:  Hi Sminnick, The butcher block comes unfinished, making it easy to stain with your favorite color. Please remember to lightly sand it before applying the stain.

Q:Most people are using these as simple tabletops that do not hold a sink. Has anyone installed in a kitchen with a heavily used sink and noticed any problems (water damage, separations, warping)? This question has been asked but the answer is nonsense.

      Answer This Question

A:  Hi, When considering the installation of butcher block countertops in a kitchen with a heavily used sink, there are several factors to keep in mind. Butcher block countertops can be a beautiful and functional addition to a kitchen, but they do require special care, especially around areas with high exposure to water, such as sinks. Here are some considerations and insights based on experiences and best practices: 1. Water Damage and Sealing: - Sealing: Proper sealing is crucial to prevent water damage. Most problems like warping, separations, and water damage occur because the wood has not been adequately sealed. A high-quality, water-resistant finish such as a marine-grade varnish or a specially formulated butcher block oil can provide a strong barrier against moisture. - Regular Maintenance: Butcher block countertops require regular maintenance, including re-oiling or reapplying sealant every few months, especially around the sink area. This helps maintain the integrity of the wood and prevent moisture from penetrating. 2. Installation Techniques - Undermount vs. Drop-in Sinks: While undermount sinks can look sleek, they increase the risk of water seeping into the wood around the edges. A well-installed drop-in sink with a properly sealed edge can help minimize water exposure. - Silicone Sealant: Using a high-quality, waterproof silicone sealant around the edges of the sink can help create a watertight barrier and prevent water from seeping into the wood. In summary, while butcher block countertops can be used in a kitchen with a heavily used sink, they require diligent sealing, regular maintenance, and prompt attention to spills to prevent issues such as water damage, separations, and warping. Those who follow these best practices generally report positive experiences.

        Q:How do I specifically order 13ft one in a L shape

        Answer This Question

A:  These are not custom order countertops. They are for building/installing your own. You cut to length with a circular saw with fine tooth blade for a smooth cut (prob 40 teeth). You can cut two at a 45 and join together with miter bolts from underneath.

Came with scratches and broken edges!!
I recently purchased the Hampton Bay Countertop with Standard Edge, and it was a huge disappointment. The countertop arrived with numerous scratches and several cracked edges, indicating poor handling and subpar quality control. The overall craftsmanship was shoddy. I expected a sturdy, high-quality surface, but what I received was far from it. I cannot recommend this product to anyone looking for a durable and well-made countertop. Save your money and look elsewhere.

The wood is beautiful without stain and takes water based poly very well. I used 3 coats of Minwax Polycrylic clear satin. I used this for a counter top in my living room bookshelf. This is my second purchase. I built a 6 foot desk with this butcher block and it came out gorgeous. Quality and price are top notch and delivered straight to my house.

            Cracked upon arrival
The board feels solid, but arrived with multiple cracks. Unsure if shipping or quality of the block is to blame. Will be returning.
Very pretty. I cut it with a track saw to fit my application and it looks great. It is definitely very heavy.

              Almost perfect
I ordered two of the 4 foot long countertops. One had some damage to one side but fortunately the other side was aesthetically better anyway. The second one was in perfect condition. My only disappointment was the ends are not square. They were both off 1/8" over the 25" width. Checked it with two different squares. Overall very happy but check them over carefully.

The quality of the wood was a plus, well packaged and sanded. Wood takes a stain evenly., packaging keeping too many dents from showing up. Easy to trim to size.

                Solid consistent butcher block
This was perfect to use as finish counter for laundry room space. Easy to cut, work, and had enough extra to make matching shelf. Was very square and flat. No bowing or warping.

                  Great affordable countertop
This countertop was a great addition to my DIY coffee bar/pantry area. I bought the 48”W top and cut it down to 35”w using my circular saw. Then I sanded it and finished it with a matte poly. It was very affordable and looks beautiful. Cutting to size at home was easy. The countertop has held up well over the past few months

I’m glad I bought two of these 6 foot table tops. They’re very heavy and sturdy. Excited that try to of my work station!
