Q:How do untighten the anchors to move the track further to the right
by|Sep 28, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  There's a threaded collar on the support bracket that loosens the clamp around the track. I recommend reviewing the instruction manual on home depot.com. Call customer service if you have additional questions 1-877-527-0313. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Hampton-Bay-8-ft-Silver-5-Light-Integrated-LED-Flex-Track-Lighting-Kit-17198NKIT-SV/300085368

Q:What is the tightest bend radius that this track can be bent to?
      by|Sep 1, 2023
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  There's no actual measurement, the track itself has tension so it will allow you to bend it so far. For more details on installation call 1-877-527-0313.

Q:Our ceiling is a different height from one end of the track to the other, we love this fixture and have had it for several years, are there extensions I can add to lower a couple of the lights to evenly distribute light to my entertainment center?

        1 Answer
        Answer This Question

A:  Happy to hear you like the light fixture. I'm sorry to say extensions are not available to lower the heads.

I installed in a basement without a ceiling, so went directly into ceiling joists. You should premeasure and straighten the track rail to fit the contour (shape) that you are going to want. You can bend it over your leg to get the tight coil that it was packed in straightened out. As you install the support stem bases, you may need to back the screw out a little to adjust the position of the base, so that the support stem that the track clamps screw into must face the right way for installation. Once you fold the track head to enclose the track, there is a decorative collar that is screwed over it to hold the two sides together. I wanted a u-shape so that I could have lights pointing in all directions (toward the washer, dryer, utility tub, hvac, and water heater).

Love this light. We had it installed by a professional. He was able to do it all by himself. No problems at all. Gave 4 stars because getting the light was difficult. Website said our local store had 3 in stock. Went to store and no one could find them. Ended up ordering online. No discounts when you do that. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5!

What's Happened to Flexible Track Lighting? ...
What's Happened to Flexible Track Lighting? I don't know what's happened to flexible track lighting over the years. At one point, it was pretty popular and you had lots of options ... even in the big box stores. But now it's nearly impossible to find a reasonably priced, simple flex track light that is also ... well ... flexible. Many years ago (10?), we bought a different brand low voltage halogen flex track solution from another big box store. We truly loved the design of those and the overall initial quality of the fixture where we had both spots and pendants combined. However, it wasn't long (1-2 years) before the 120V -> 12V transformer blew. We got a replacement transformer, and then ... sure enough ... 1-2 years later, that transformer blew as well. Also, the halogen bulbs were forever going out, even though we were always careful not to touch them with our fingers. So we lived without the fixture again for a long time, and I was determined to eventually find a line voltage (no transformer) LED-based (no halogen) replacement that would look very similar. That's when I found this Hampton Bay family of line voltage flex track lighting. At first, I was looking at the previous halogen version of the track. This had all the options I wanted, including a nice adapter that would allow me to add my own pendants. But it was halogen. No dice. Then I noticed this LED version of what appeared to be the same basic fixture. I thought perhaps they had just replaced the bulbs, and I could use all the other parts interchangeably. Unfortunately, that wasn't exactly the case. The track is actually different than the older fixture, and there was no pendant adapter for this new fixture. Horrible decision by Hampton Bay/HD. Also, in their infinite wisdom, they chose to NOT use standard, replaceable LED bulbs but instead create their own small circuit board with LEDs on it that cannot be replaced/repaired. If it goes out, you gotta buy a new head (at least 3-5 times more than an LED bulb, assuming that you will still be able to get the heads in the future). So, I decided to go ahead with this fixture and see if I could "adapt" it to other pendants on my own using readily available parts from Home Depot (Model #s 7028400, 8570208, 477893, and this fixture - I call it the "FrankenFixture" - see picture). Needless to say, after voiding my warranty in about 15 minutes, this turned out to be a lot more work than I anticipated, and I still don't quite have the combination I wanted: line voltage, LED, dimmable, replaceable bulbs on all fixtures, including the spots. Won't bore you with the details, and I can't say that I would recommend this approach. If you want pendants with this fixture, I would recommend going with the ones made for this model (which I of course found only after making these modifications). They just won't be dimmable or have replaceable bulbs either. Some additional detail: Pros - looks decent on the ceiling after all is said and done - uses LEDs instead of halogen - low power consumption, should last longer - line voltage - no transformer to blow out Cons - LEDs on circuit boards with no replaceable bulbs. Box says "No need to" - sorry ... "I need to". (burn out? more lumens? different light color?) This is a huge drawback for me. - not dimmable - most LED bulbs these days are - no universal pendant adapter available - only a small number of non-dimmable, "no bulb" pendants available - horrible drywall anchors - simply must replace with screw type or toggle bolts for an overhead application like this - plastic-covered track is VERY difficult to shape - took hours of coaxing/bending to get a very subtle S shape. And even then, after installation, it's putting side pressure on anchors so that they will not stay vertical - heads and plastic parts are extremely easy to scratch In the end, I can't say I recommend these at the moment. With a few minor design changes and some more flexible options (more pendants, universal pendant adapter), this could actually become a great fixture. Just not there yet.

I bought two of these to connect together. Very nice except for two points. The sheet rock anchors are useless. They are hard plastic and the screws only go in about 1/8" and then the anchor spins in the sheet rock and doesn't go in further. Threw them out and used good left overs from previous projects. Also when connecting two tracks, the second didn't get power. The conductors don't go to the end of the track so the joining piece doesn't make electrical contact. I had to use a utility knife to cut the track closer to the conductor ends, on *both* ends that went into the joiner. Annoying details. With good conductor/track length and good anchors it would have been perfect. The lights are nice and warm and bright.

Attractive, Easy to Install Lights on Track, Bright Light, Track Not Very Adjustable in Shape
Looking for some track lighting for my collection room and this light fits the bill, and allows great flexibility in where light is cast on my shelves. It's plenty bright, 1600+ lumens of soft white light. It's not that intense white light from some LEDs, more of the regular soft white you get from standard bulbs, but much more efficient. It draws approx 30 watts total for the entire system. ASSEMBLY, INSTALL: This is a standard three wire install. White, black and ground wire. This will replace any standard fixture in your ceiling. All hardware and wire nuts are included. Assembling and attaching the power base takes 10 minutes at most. Attaching the track takes some effort. It's hard plastic with the power wires embedded and does not want to come uncoiled. The best you can do it get it into a rough C shape, it won't go straight and it won't curve back around in an "S" shape like the website pics show. You'll want to plan your four anchor points, screw those into the ceiling joists and then attach the track to them. The anchor points install with a single screw each, the screw is hidden in the base nicely. Once the track is secured the lights go on fast and easy. No tools needed. They clip over the track and can be placed anywhere up and down the track with little effort needed to change the locations. LIGHTS: The lights are fully adjustable, up, down, and around to aim at any angle you want. The spotlight is very bright with six LEDs in each one. They are NOT dimmable. Each light draws only 6.2 watts according to the box. OVERALL: This is an attractive light once installed, and gives off plenty of light for showing my collection and if installed in a kitchen or bathroom would really set off the details you wanted to highlight. At only 30 watts it will save you money on electric costs too. The draw back is the much too rigid light track. If it was more flexible I'd give this five stars, but it's hard to deal with and wants to snap back into it's original coil no matter how long you try to straighten it out or coil it the other way. It is coiled so tight it tries to rip the track mounts out of the ceiling so mount them securely. Other than that it's attractive silver color, wires into the outlet box easily, very bright and allows me to aim light exactly where I'd want it.

The install was trying as the ceiling plate is rather flimsy. Could have been as well made as the lights themselves. The only oddity is that the lights remain on at low setting. Cannot shut off at night. So they work as a low voltage night light
