Can this fan be used with a variable speed control and if so which one is recommended?

Asked by Cowanz August 16, 2020

Answer

There is no mentioning in the manual that it can be used with a variable speed control. If the fan is not designed to be used with a variable speed control, it may not be safe to do so, as it may cause overheating in the motor and become a safety hazard.

Will the life of motor's bearing shorten if fan is installed on a vertical wall to the attic?

I don't think so. Mine is in a vertical wall venting out the side of the house. My last fan failed after 6 years of lint buildup.

Installed according to manufacturers instructions. Worked wonderfully for about 20 minutes. I was cleaning and getting ready for the next step in our bathroom remodel when all of the sudden, it just stopped working. Tried manual and humidity controlled automatic mode, nothing dead. After dealing with fiberglass insulation during installation, I now have to uninstall and return to Home Depot.

Goes right in as a replacement fan. No need to go in the attic. 80CFM is the bare minimum that I would install for even a small bathroom. This one is not noisy, but it can be heard. No need to pay more then what this cost.

If you're looking for an exhaust fan and don't need an integrated light, the Hampton Bay 80CFM exhaust fan is a good option. Installation is straightforward, and can be completed in around 30 minutes depending on your level of experience. The fan itself isn't too loud and moved a decent amount of air. I installed this in a smallish bathroom and it takes care of the steam from the shower well enough that the mirror only fogs a tiny bit.

Needed a replacement for our older (but not that old) exhaust fan. I made the mistake previously of not paying attention to the noise level on the box and paid for it by having to listen to a noisy exhaust fan for many years. Finally broke down and got this one and while it isn't the quietest fan on the market, it is much quieter than the previous one I had so I'm very happy. Installation was fine for anyone with intermediate installation and electrical know-how.

This was the easiest install I have ever done for a ceiling fan. I appreciated the simple changes which in themselves are not dramatic, but made my day. The neatest change is the “push in” electrical connections vs. old school wire nuts. It is certainly best to use solid core wiring with these. If you must use stranded, properly tin the wires first. A simple change to electrical connections very well done for everyone from seasoned pros to DIY’ers. Also, the connection installation points for the grill get an A+. Each of two fit nicely into a slot on each side, and do not pop out or give you hassles. Think of how many times you will clean the grill in a lifetime. You will appreciate this update each time. Sound level came in at 2.2 sones, however my duct run could not be as straight as I’d like. This does add to the sones level, however this is reasonably quiet. The number one favorite of the fan? The duct damper closes firmly and nice when the fan is turned off. Overall, a top notch “fan only” vent. Nicely done!

Hampton Bay 80 CFM Ceiling Bathroom Exhaust Fan, White My existing bathroom exhaust fan wasn’t broken but it was loud and thus an annoyance. I was looking to replace it and then I stumbled upon this product. At 80 cfm and 2 sones it’s night and day difference between what I got right now. In layman terms , this one is not only more powerful and also quieter at the same time. This can be put in by any DIYer in under an hour. The grill is rectangular and can be removed when needed to clean. It does well removing the moisture out of my bathroom.

This Hampton bay exhaust fan was not fun to install. But, it’s never fun to change one out with blown insulation falling on your face. The old fan was a builder grade rattle n shake. I was looking forward to the job. I was able to do everything from below my soffit was close enough of shoot vent straight out. . I just drilled some holes through the housing and attached with 4 tec screws. The fan runs smooth and quit. After showering the steam is evacuated quickly

(What's this)
The Hampton Bay 80 CFM ceiling bathroom exhaust fan is well suited for a small bathroom. The fan is rated at 2 sone, which means it is basically 2 times as loud as a refrigerator in a quiet room. It has good power to move the air as you would expect. It is easy to install in a existing hole or in a new installation. My experience was to replace an old unit that was twice as loud and moved less air. My installation was for a roughly 3 x 5 potty with an 8 ft ceiling in the master bath suite, which translates to about 120 cubic feet. This means the fan completely evacuates the air in that area in about a minute and a half.

This fan is nice and quite. It will fit between floor joists with little filler. Easy to install . We will see if it is easy to clean. I put this in my half bath since there is no light with it. The air change over is very good and have no problem with the exhaust from this unit. Only issue I have is the way the cover goes on with two spring clips that holds the cover tightly to the ceiling.

The Hampton Bay ceiling bathroom exhaust is perfect for the very small bathroom that we have. The exhaust installations it took about an hour and a half due to the fact that I needed to cut a hole bigger than what I currently had. And this exhaust fan is very quiet. For two scones it is perfect for our downstairs half bathroom that we have.Great pick up for a great price. Also I love how they gave you the push in electrical connections.
