Installed this unit about a year ago and have notice a rattling noise recently. Unit is firmly installed and no pieces are loose when I take the cover off to look. What could be making this noise?

This would replace an existing fan. Will the housing fit in the 9“ x 9“ hole? Also, just to confirm, does this need to be connected to ductwork? There is no existing ductwork. Thank you.

This size is too large for it. And it need to be connected to ductwork to exhaust.

          Answer This Question

No, but it’s much quieter than other manufacturers’ fans that are 80 CFM. This is the fan I use if my customers want a quiet fan.

If I want to replace my existing 50CFM fan with a 80 CFM fan, is it necessary to replace the housing as well or can I just remove the 50CFM motor and insert the 80CFM motor into the same existing housing? These are both Hampton Bay vent fans.

              Answer This Question

These fans are integrated units. Unlike many more expensive fans, it's not possible to swap out the motor separately. Looks to me like you'd need to swap out the whole thing.

                Ok, but loud
It's ok, but 2 scones so its loud. I prefer under 1 scone and 100 CFM. Spend the extra $ for a Panas. and it'll last you 20 years

                  Quiet Fan
Had an original bathroom fan that was installed when the house was built (1990's), so we decided to install a quiet modern bathroom fan in our master bathroom. This HB fan was easy to install and fit perfectly in the old slot that the old one was in. More importantly this was 2-3 times quieter than the original fan, which makes it even better.

                  Good product
The sound level is not bad out of the box. Make sure u install hard pipe if running more the 4ft. If less than 4ft or u have to make transition, be sure ur flex duct is stretched and less turns as much as possible. The sound i also related to duct install !!! Plg/Hvac contractor

                  Failed within 20 minutes
Installed according to manufacturers instructions. Worked wonderfully for about 20 minutes. I was cleaning and getting ready for the next step in our bathroom remodel when all of the sudden, it just stopped working. Tried manual and humidity controlled automatic mode, nothing dead. After dealing with fiberglass insulation during installation, I now have to uninstall and return to Home Depot.

Goes right in as a replacement fan. No need to go in the attic. 80CFM is the bare minimum that I would install for even a small bathroom. This one is not noisy, but it can be heard. No need to pay more then what this cost.

If you're looking for an exhaust fan and don't need an integrated light, the Hampton Bay 80CFM exhaust fan is a good option. Installation is straightforward, and can be completed in around 30 minutes depending on your level of experience. The fan itself isn't too loud and moved a decent amount of air. I installed this in a smallish bathroom and it takes care of the steam from the shower well enough that the mirror only fogs a tiny bit.

Needed a replacement for our older (but not that old) exhaust fan. I made the mistake previously of not paying attention to the noise level on the box and paid for it by having to listen to a noisy exhaust fan for many years. Finally broke down and got this one and while it isn't the quietest fan on the market, it is much quieter than the previous one I had so I'm very happy. Installation was fine for anyone with intermediate installation and electrical know-how.

This was the easiest install I have ever done for a ceiling fan. I appreciated the simple changes which in themselves are not dramatic, but made my day. The neatest change is the “push in” electrical connections vs. old school wire nuts. It is certainly best to use solid core wiring with these. If you must use stranded, properly tin the wires first. A simple change to electrical connections very well done for everyone from seasoned pros to DIY’ers. Also, the connection installation points for the grill get an A+. Each of two fit nicely into a slot on each side, and do not pop out or give you hassles. Think of how many times you will clean the grill in a lifetime. You will appreciate this update each time. Sound level came in at 2.2 sones, however my duct run could not be as straight as I’d like. This does add to the sones level, however this is reasonably quiet. The number one favorite of the fan? The duct damper closes firmly and nice when the fan is turned off. Overall, a top notch “fan only” vent. Nicely done!

Hampton Bay 80 CFM Ceiling Bathroom Exhaust Fan, White My existing bathroom exhaust fan wasn’t broken but it was loud and thus an annoyance. I was looking to replace it and then I stumbled upon this product. At 80 cfm and 2 sones it’s night and day difference between what I got right now. In layman terms , this one is not only more powerful and also quieter at the same time. This can be put in by any DIYer in under an hour. The grill is rectangular and can be removed when needed to clean. It does well removing the moisture out of my bathroom.
