About This Product

Hampton Bay power packs provide convenient features and flexibility to design simple or more elaborate landscape lighting designs. The Low-Voltage 45-Watt Landscape Transformer is Hampton Bay's lowest profile, slim line power unit that can be easily concealed after installation. This unit is based on a potted toroidal core design that eliminates annoying buzzing sounds while offering the highest efficiency possible. Utilizing state-of-the-art sensing circuits, this transformer provides dual safety functions that detect and react to a system overload or a short circuit condition in a landscape installation. The transformer includes a photocell and digital timer as well as a ground shield, making it safe for use with submersible lights. It is equipped with dual voltage output terminals (12-Volt and 15-Volt), which help compensate for voltage drops in high-wattage / longer wire runs as well as help reduce cable loss when using 15-Volt LED fixtures.

      Answer This Question

Hello, no we do not advise that you use an extension cord to power our units. Our units must be plugged into a direct wall outlet. Using an extension with this type of device runs the risk of sparking a fire. Thank You.

            Answer This Question

Hello, as long as the photocell itself is placed in a non shaded area where it can take accurate readings of sunlight. The unit itself does not have to be in direct sunlight, but they are built for outdoor use as well. Thank You.

My model SL-45-12A transformer no longer shows anything on the display. I checked the outlet and that is not the problem. It seems like the unit itself is dead and Home Depot has discontinued this model. What is the replacement part for this model?

              Answer This Question

Home Depot should step up to the plate and provide and recommend an alternate solution / product. Also, the owner of the bad unit should call the manufacturer, describe the problem, and ask for a solution. This is a problem with multiple parts.

              Great Little Transformer
I have a 600W transformer plugged into my only outside outlet in the sun. It works great, but the run to the other side of the property would have been real long. I found this on Clearance, and read it has an extendable light sensor. It works great! Mounted the transformer by the shady outlet below my porch and plugged it in. Ran the senor over the top of the ledge. Saved me time and money, by not having to run expensive 12 gauge and risk having a weak lights at the end.

Transformer was easy to connect, I used 5 4 watt LED lights with 16/2 gauge wire. Took less than one hour to set up system. Attached transformer to a stand which you can buy extra, instead of attaching to the house. Easy to use and setup. Have lights scheduled to go on at certain time and off at certain time instead of using dusk to dawn photocell.

This is not your father's low voltage lighting transformer. Worked perfectly with two 10 watt low voltage LED spotlights to highlight the flag. Easily programmable timer, but I use the dusk to dawn photocell feature (included).

Clean and small installation. Comes with many functions and easy to follow instructions. It included a photo-sensor for automatic on/off. Although I used it without the photo sensor to avoid running more wires. Setting the timer was simple and the test function allowed me to test my lights and connections throughout the install. More than enough power. I'm currently using only 26 watts out of 45 available, for 4 spot lights and 2 step lights. This was a fun project and Hampton Bay made it so easy to get everything connected and up and running. I included an image of the transformer and lights that are currently connected.

This is working great so far. Installation is very easy and the display is easy to read. I have 4 x 2watt lights connected and my Kill-A-Watt is reading 11 watts draw.

Display labels wear off in a year! Sure I can print out and keep the instructions but you'd think... - If you are going to buy this brand, buy more than 45W. That's way too small for any project. Also, trying to get the wires into the tiny little area is an afternoon by itself. There's got to be better/easier out there. Suggestions?

I have just completed installing this product and have been very pleased so far. I chose this transformer because it was the LOWEST wattage but equipped with a photo electric cell for automatic on-off with darkness and daylight. I think landscape lighting transformers have lagged behind the shift to LED lights. Many of the lighting transformers are rated for 120 to 300 watts, but LED's are very low wattage (1 to 10 watts each commonly) and the transformers are still sized for halogen lights (15 to 50 watts each commonly). I planned to run eight LED landscape lights model 1001 486 801 which are only 60 lumens and 1 watt each, for a total load of only 8 watts. But you are cautioned to have 50 to 80% of rated capacity for the load to avoid shortening the life of the transformer. So I added one 20 watt halogen light to get my load to 28 watts. I decided to mount the transformer indoors in my garage to make access more convenient and protect the transformer from weather. The photo electric cell has only a six foot long cord, but I was able to extend it considerably by splicing in a 25-foot section of 16 gauge two connector cable run through the attic. I mounted the photo electric cell under the eves of the house to protect it from rain and avoid light interference, and it works great. The instructions provided with the transformer are very complete and programming is simple with several buttons. I am very pleased so far with this transformer.

Transformer was easy to install, came with all the parts needed for my existing lights to attach to it. Included instruction and parts for hanging on wall. Sensor works perfectly. Would highly recommend. Last one lasted over 2.5 years with daily use in high heat environment (SE FL).
