Can velcro be use on this

Asked by Jb September 14, 2020

Answer

The back of these units have 2 holes for sliding over a couple of regular screws for mounting. However, your idea of possibly using hook & loop (velcro) will work just fine. How good it holds will depend on how well you attach the velcro to the deck steps of course. The lights are very lightweight.

What drill bit size do i use to insert the anchor that comes in the box?

My lights were mounted with two screws. I simply used an impact driver to mount the screws. I would suggest that you can choose a drill bit about 1/2 the diameter of the anchor that you are referring to and you will be fine.

Nothing is provided for you to attach the lights to concrete. No suggestions for you because the back of the lights is where you would need replace the rechargeable battery if you ever have to. I personally have never had to do that. *FYI, I placed one of mine simply set it on the concrete step facing inwards to the body of the concrete step and it works fine, no attachment needed.

Good lighting for deck steps. Really wouldn't want anything brighter than these (4 lumens) for my application. Have older Hampton Bay 5 lumen lights on deck & these new ones are for the steps. Very nice. Installation tip - use the spacing indicator lines on the back of light as a guide for the screw placement (2 3/16" spacing). Why don't instructions show this? Wasted a lot of time on 1st light w/tape measure, etc. So easy to mark & drill holes after figuring that out. Duh! Also, I temporarily taped the lights to decking to experiment with placement. Unless you are sure exactly where you want to put them, don't start drilling holes. This helped with testing exposure to sun, height & spacing for how they looked at night, views from different angles, etc. I also spray painted to match color with deck. Taped off solar panel & light, applied 2 coats of paint & 2 clear coats. Cons - the cheap mounting screws with Hampton Bay lights. Ugh. Also, don't like the 2 small screws for battery compartment. Previous Hampton Bay lights have a battery cover that can just be popped off with finger. Much nicer! In winter months when sun won't charge batteries, I frequently swap fully charged batteries from battery charger into lights. Nice to be able to just pop off battery cover, insert new battery & snap cover back on.

I used these to replaced the old solar lights on my deck. The old lights just went bad so I needed to get new ones. These lights are close to the old ones so they fit onto the existing screws that were used. After turning the lights on to the ‘AUTO’ position , I let these lights charge for a full day price to installation, just like the directions stated. Lights came on and provide the right amount of light.

I needed some lighting in a dark area so I installed these LED Solar deck lights and they are perfect for lighting these areas. They last until the early morning. These lights are made with plastic components, which will not rust as some of the metal lights do. They are not large, ( 3.4 in wide x 2.9 in high ) which makes them unobstructive. I like that the bottom of the lights have indicators to help you easily mark the position of the holes to drill. (No need for a tape measure). Perfect for stairs, deck, ect.

I really like these deck lights. They are small and not terribly powerful but give just enough light to make our front and back decks with steps safer in the evening. They are easy to install. It took me five minutes to get them all up. The button on the back should be set to auto, and at first it was not very clear how that worked. It's a push button, so I just played with them to make sure they were on auto when I hung them all. Just two screws were needed for each compact light.

Great post/deck light with solar charging capability. These are very simple accent lights you can place on your deck, fence posts, patio wall etc. Each one contains a single LED light with a diffusing lens (to spread out the light for better illumination). There are 4 deck lights in each box. The light comes with mounting screws (about 1 inch long) and plastic anchors if you want to mount them on wall board, concrete, or in the mortar of a brick wall. The mounting screws must be placed 2 & 3/16 inches apart (see attached pic). It's even labeled on the back of the light. Each light is 3.4 inches wide so it will fit on either a 4 inch or 6 inch deck post. The batteries are rechargeable and can be replaced (good feature) by removing two Phillips head screws on the battery door. The unit requires one AA, 300-600 mAh, 1.2V, Nickel Metal Hydride battery. The instructions recommend replacing the battery annually. Each unit has an On/Off switch, so if you want to disable the LED light (i.e. during the winter months), it is easy to do so. I installed these lights and they remained lit for most of the night. I checked the next morning and the battery still had a little power left. That kind of performance is not too bad considering we only get about 10 hours of daylight during the winter months. These lights are small, compact, and easy to mount. My only "nit" is that a screw template in the instructions would be helpful. However, a ruler or tape measure works well too.

HAMPTON BAY SOLAR BRONZE INTEGRATED LED DOWNCAST DECK LIGHT (4-PACK) I have several Hampton bay solar lights and they all have the same issue. The screws that come with them are absolute garbage. To offer such fantastic products and provide such crap fasteners is disheartening. That being said I love these lights. It took longer to find screws that I could actually use than it did to install all 4 lights. They look great.

These solar powered step or deck lights are great. They are very compact size, but they produce a lot of light. They come with simple instructions and are easy to install. They are made of a high-quality plastic that should last for years. All the screws for mounting are included. The solar cell part of the light has a thin plastic film on it during shipping, so be sure you remove it when installing the light for it function properly.

The Hampton Bay Solar Bronze Integrated LED Downcast Deck Light (4-Pack) goes without saying is a very good value for the price. The weatherproof lights are clean lined for a sharp look on steps and deck rail posts. The solar feature is nice which obviously eliminates the need for any kind of cordage and the charge lasts for approximately 8-9 hours (after an entire day of direct sunlight). Nice, weatherproof on/ off switch on the back and the light does the dusk-to-dawn very well if you just push the button 'on' and leave it. Set it and forget it. The light these units produce is as bright as the walkway lights you would find in high end hotel walkways or sidewalks. The sharp triangle shape makes the units almost invisible from the top, casting all of the light downward in a neat, sharp focus. The color of the emitted light is a nice, natural warm which enhances and beautifies landscaping and safety on steps. During the daytime (while they are charging), the units are practically non-visible vs. the typical landscape post style light (that stands out) which is really pretty nice. Kind of cool that they are unnoticeable in the daytime but look awesome at night. Just a personal coolness factor for you. The light comes with a rechargeable solar battery and a pack of mounting screws with plastic anchors. Mounting the lights is as easy as 1-2-3. needing only a Phillips head screwdriver. The only bummer with these lights is the name and what you might expect. The name Solar 'Bronze' is slightly misleading. The housing is actually plastic not bronze or metal. It is the color of the plastic that is 'Bronze'. No big deal but if you are expecting a metal light you will be let down. These are great lights and to get a pack of 4 for the Home Depot price is fantastic. Yes, I will be buying more.

These deck lights do what they were designed for, namely lighting where you step and lighting a path. In my opinion, optimum lighting is achieved at about 30” height, where you get about a 2 sq ft light spread. I’m a big fan of solar powered ‘anything’, but many solar rechargeable items have odd size batteries, or no way to replace them. Not so with these; you can replace the solar rechargeable batteries (with size AA Nickel Metal Hydride--NiMH—batteries). These are not motion activated, so they’re toggled either on or off; they light from dusk to dawn. Very functional solar path lights.
