It’s a nice awning for a patio. Provides good shade

The features of this awning I really like are that it’s a light color (white) but it does show the dirt quickly. However I do have a lot of trees and birds. It was fairly easy to assemble I did need help from my sons. Directions were very easy to follow and all the hardware was complete. Overall it is nice looking and fairly solid. We put it up on the west side of a pool for summer shade. I would suggest anchoring it to a cement patio or even a wood deck. Concrete pavers will not hold it down in a heavy wind storm.

Perfect minimalist style

Overall, assembly with one person was a pain, but doable. Not recommended, but doable. All metal parts are bright white and powder coated. Do not tighten all bolts until mostly assembled. I’ve had this for one year now, and it’s starting to show some wear and tear. Rust running down columns from bolts under caps. I haven’t attempted to wash it off yet, and I hope it does. What’s a bigger disappointment is the fabric cover. Not 100% waterproof which I expected, however I didn’t expect the fabrics to get mildew so easily. This sits essentially in the sun all day, so I don’t know if it’s the moisture trapped between the fabric that is permanently the top portion and the fabric that slides left to right or back to front. I will attempt to tackle with with some mold and mildew cleaner and see.

Great Pergola!

Very high quality of materials and construction. The fabric canopy element is awesome that you can adjust both how much light comes through the top and that you can block some sun or wind from the sides. It was fairly easy to assemble, but you will likely need two people and a ladder unless you are pretty tall. The only downside was that it wasn’t tall enough for our hot tub cover to open under it. That was a unique use for it however.

Great Option- simple install and great modern look.

This shade structure is a solid option for a semi permanent installation option. This could easily be installed on a deck, over a patio, or in the grass. It came with long tent stakes to hold it down. The canopy Includes a double canopy design that are easily moved to let more natural light in. This is not a water proof canopy but, it does decrease the rain underneath. I would recommend 2 people to assemble the structure and install the canopies- took about 2 hours to assemble and it comes with all of the needed tools and screws. I would highly recommend following the storage instructions for off season storage. This has a modern look with a simplicity that is very easy and straightforward. I would recommend this for a family looking for a semi permanent install without the need to be completely water proof canopies.

Worth the struggle

I was offered this Hampton Bay Stillman 9.8 ft. x 9.8 ft. White Metal Pergola as part of a Home Depot promotion. The unit came very well packaged, there was no damage to any of the parts. This thing is heavy, about 140 lbs., so bring a friend. The included hardware and tool kits are conveniently blister packed. After unpacking all the parts and laying them out I opened the instruction booklet, that's when the problems began. The instructions are a nightmare to try and follow. I ended up putting the powder coated frame together and taking it back apart four times before I got it right. I'm not a novice to assembling this kind of stuff, I've been doing it for years and years, but this one is confusing to say the least. The unit itself is very well made and durable. The Allan head bolts attach easily and are very secure. I had some difficulty installing the fabric but I finally got it figured out. I can't recommend this project for the faint of heart, it will require patience and perseverance. That said, now that it's assembled I'm glad I ordered it. It's a very useful addition to my patio and I see it lasting for many years to come. Hampton Bay includes a 3 year warranty to be free of manufacturing defects to the original purchaser and Home Depot offers their very generous 90 day return policy.

Very modern looking.

This 9.8 x9.8 foot pergola does take at least two people to assemble. It can packaged well and the instructions were clear. Just make sure you put it together according to the instructions and not how you think it should be put together. It has powder coated paint on the posts and metal parts. The fabric is UV and stain resistant but it does seem a bit flimsy to me. It is seven feet high and ten feet wide and deep. If it were a bit more stable even when screwed to a concrete patio I would feel more secure when the wind blows that it will not tip over. It does need to be on a level surface because the fabric cover will not stay even if it is not level. Overall this pergola looks nice and you can put a small dining table with about four chairs under it. The fabric cover is adjustable from left to right.

Definitely a two person job to assemble and not built to hold up in stronger wind, rain, or snow

The Hampton Bay Stillman 9.8 ft. x 9.8 ft. White Metal Pergola is definitely a two-person job to assemble. Some of the holes did not line up very well and it required a fair amount of additional work. The instructions are not very easy to follow and one of the parts was mislabeled. It showed “upside” with an arrow but it was definitely wrong. I didn’t see any signs of rust out of the box but that is a concern over the long term. I don’t see any easy way to remove all of the canopy so it also going to be interesting to see how it holds up in the wind and rain. Luckily for me our backyard is pretty well protected from the prevailing winds. Not sure this pergola is a good fit for place that gets snow. If it needs to be taken down for strong winds, rain, snow, etc. it seems like the design needs to be changed for quick disassembly. The sliding part of the canopy can be removed fairly easily but the rest of the canopy requires removing 8 bolts.

Very nice pergola and pretty easy to assemble

The Stillman 9.8 ft x 9.8 ft White Metal Pergola from Hampton Bay is a really attractive piece and it doesn't cut out light, while still keeping you out of direct sun exposure. This pergola was pretty easy to assemble, however, the bolt holes strip pretty easy, so make sure you hand-tighten and you don't use a drill. This pergola has the canvas cover that you see in the picture, plus an additional one on the underside that covers only the middle. It's not water-tight in heavy rain. The cover will pull up or down on either side as the top canvas moves inside of a slide track. So, really, you can move the cover with the direction of the sun. It allows plenty of light to penetrate but keeps the heat from the sun off of your skin. I would definitely buy another.
